Title: More custom for IDnet ?
Post by: old Bill on Jan 05, 2008, 14:48:42
Well I contacted vivaciti today and asked again about my Mac code. They asked why I was leaving and I told them due to the poor speeds from Enta. They asked who I was going to move to and I told them IDnet.  I was then told that as of this coming Monday they would have new IDnet lines installed and would be selling IDnets services.  Surpport would be either though them or IDnet.
So is IDnet looking to expand to the big time ?
I would like to try and find out more before I decide what to do.

I have no idea on this, Bill. I'd suggest you give IDNet a ring.

A worrying development if true..  :(

I don't think it's anything new.. it's described here..

http://www.idnet.net/solutions/partners.jsp

It will be interesting to see what Vivawhatsit charge for the same service as a reseller.

Indeed Rik, not sure " Inactive " would be an appropriate name for one tho'...  ;D

It could apply to your support department, In, as you wouldn't have much to do. :)

I have to say it's a little disappointed that Vivaciti may be selling IDNet connections, but I guess that's just business.

In what way, Sebby?

I was told that Vivaciti would be able to sell Enta, IDnet and Griffin. He had no price details for IDnet at this time.

Will there be any truly small independent ISPs left in a few years time ?

It depends what you mean my independent, Bill. IDNet is independent, but they do have resellers. Even BT has white label resellers.

You will still have time to try them all first OB, don't worry..  ;D

It would be quicker to list the ones you've been through, Bill. ;)

OK, here is the formulae ;..Count your Modems / Subtract this by the number of used ISP's, add the visits of BT Engineers, multiply by the number of calls to IDNet CS = result. ;D

:legpull:

I've taken my socks off, so there's an extra 10 digits if it will help, Bill. ;)

Its the amount of calls to IDnets C/S that has lost me. ;D. Still very happy with my new line. Did think about going down the LLU path but to much chance I would lose the decent line at the exchange.

I'm just worried it will lose all the good things that it currently has by being a small ISP.

I was thinking that after seeing a lot of them that went the same way, then downhill. :o

I honestly don't think that will happen, Sebby. Simon & Tim know that they serve a niche market, and they understand exactly what that market is.

I share that concern as well Sebby, however I will wait and see how things pan out.

As Ann pointed out this is not anything new, it's just that apparently it's just been noticed here. Nothing bad happened before you were aware of IDNet as a reseller so why start worrying about it now?

I can't argue with that, Noreen.

So does anybody know how long IDNet have had this facility available, and how many resellers have used it?

No to both, but the partner option has been on their website for as long as I can remember.

Fair enough Rik, I was aware of the " partner " situation, but not the reseller bit. ;)

It's the same thing, in practice, In. Partners resell a white label product provided by IDNet.
