Well some will know that new house hold items are on the way to being networked like your fridge so it can buy what you need or you can log into it while out and check what you may need, but this article in the reg here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/12/18/networked_toaster_hack/) makes you wonder about how safe this is, your pc could be toast because of it, so watch out :laugh:

I'm not worried because the slots in my toaster are too small for my laptop ;D
Most Linux based fridges are immune from ordering of milk as the chances of finding a working driver for your particular model are almost nil and those that do require you to have a degree in computer science to install it ;)

My incredible powers of observation have enabled me to determine that the slots in the toaster are far too small or the laptop is much too large both in both length and width merely by performing a visual comparison without the need for a physical experiment :laugh:

I have to admit that that thought did not occur to me. This was probably because I'm also able to anticipate that the laptop would have an inferior taste to bread and probably also require subsequent dental repair work too :laugh:
However this discussion has given me the idea that instead of providing cooling systems in laptops they could be made to run hotter and therefore provide the additional functionality to also be used as a George Foreman type grill or sandwich toaster ;D
I like that idea, John - though the keys might get a bit sticky. Quick, patent it. :)

It's probably too late Rik, everytime I come up with a good idea someone announces it the day after, I think there's a listening bug about somewhere. As regards the keys getting sticky you only have to press the shift key five times to turn them on. Also we must be part of the way there with the 'hot' keys.

I want one of those American style fridges, with a drinks dispenser in the front. I very nearly bought one when I moved, but luckily measured up first, as it wouldn't have fitted in the available space!

One of the places we sat last year had one. As I only drink cold drinks, the ice dispenser came into its own. :)

They are great, have to be plumbed in though, well my friends one does but that was cheap enough, thing is as Simon said they are huge, sadly they will not fit in the space we have :'(

I would love one as I need to drink loads of water each day anyway (as we should all do) but I have a britta filter jug in the fridge that suffices , not the same though :(

The new ones are much better, you don't have to soak them, we have a kettle with one in and the one in the fridge, it does make the water taste better :)

Our kitchens only about 3m x 3m and we've managed to get one of these in with plenty of space for the other usual appliances too : Samsung fridge-freezer (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=homeappliances&type=refrigerator&subtype=sidebyside&model_cd=RSH1DTSW1/XEU)

Hi Simon, we bought ours over three years ago now so the one in the link may have been updated. At the time we bought it there was a lot of discounting on it, we got ours from Comet and it was only slightly more expensive than an ordinary Fridge-Freezer.
We did fit new kitchen cupboard units at the time and I built the fridge-freezer in between two tall units with a bridging cupboard above.
My kitchen was designed before I moved in, with a space behind the door, next to the units, for an upright Fridge Freezer. If I was to hanker for an American job, it would mean a complete kitchen refit. Something for future years, perhaps. :)
I want to know where these huge great kitchens in MFI etc. adverts are, cat and swing spring to mind for my kitchen. ;)
Not to mention bedrooms and lounges... Most houses couldn't take the stuff they show - all part of the insidious aspiration creep that advertisers use.
It's the same with most furniture stores In, particularly the ones that sell sofas. They seem to have display areas greater than 20' x 20' with no other furniture but the sofas and chairs. They don't have windows or doors to worry about either.
We'll all have to start living in warehouses and showrooms! >:D

I am convinced all of these Sofa companies must belong to the same owners, their tacky not very nice looking stuff, all looks the same to me.
I suspect that the factories which supply them go round with a catalogue, and they pick what they want from it, In. Shades or exact features may change, but the shell is a constant.
You are probably right Rik, most are sourced from China now, according to my mate that works for DFS.
I had mine made at a local factory, I rejected the first one, as it had visible signs of poor workmanship, so the Manager agreed that I could go to the factory and oversee the replacement one being made, which I did, that I have had for over 15 years now.
It's the best way, In. With upholstery, too much is hidden from us when we buy. :(
