Does nobody else get this. Bang on midnight every night everything stops. Tonight I was winning at sudoku and there it goes, dead.. soooo annoying. It's driving me nuts.. I think I'll get a drink..
Edit: Maybe I'll change my name to Cinderella
No problems here, in fact I made a post on here at just almost spot on midnight. ;)
Never mind Cinders, I will take you to the ball. ;)
Can't say I've noticed it myself, Ann. I'm sure Rik will have some questions for you. ;)
Ann
Do you lose the internet connection, or is it the PC shutting down?
Are there any scheduled tasks on the PC that run at at midnight, virus updates, MS patch installs etc?
Have you scanned for the usual things, spyware/virus's etc
Hi Ann
What Glenn said, but also does your router log any disconnection at that time. I wonder whether something is being turned off or on, eg heating, and causing a noise burst.
No problem with mine at midnight Ann, I would check all that has been stated above, I have been online up till 2am recently and have had no issues at midnight on forum or off browsing elsewhere
A very Norman post count, Gary. :)
Ann
An afterthought. You don't have anything configured in the router to only allow internet access at certain times do you? (Or possibly in a software firewall...)
Ann
Maybe if your router has lease time of 24 hours it might shut down at that time. My one has a lease time of 24 hours but doesn't shut down at the end of that time, I'm not sure if all routers work the same way over this issue though. Just a thought really.
:thnks: for the suggestions.
I emailed IDNet about it and Simon has replied saying that he's heard of it before. He suggests the router is time checking but a google search suggests that it might be refreshing the IP address. I had let the router find the IP itself (as per IDNet's advice) but have now entered it myself along with the DNS server IPs and will see tonight if that stops it. What's the betting I fall asleep at half past 11 tonight. ;D
What router is it, Ann?

I will give you a prod at 11.55. ;D
Could it be anything do do with IDNet switching from peak to off peak for downloading?
More likely the switch to Economy 7. ;)

;D ;D My thoughts as well... on a serious note, that may be a possibility, but then, what do I know..
Router is a Netgear DG834G v2. The firmware is up to date. I looked in at the Netgear forums but couldn't make head nor tail of them. I couldn't even work out which forum to ask the question so I sidled on out without being noticed.
I don't think it's IDNet's doing. Others have the same problem it seems so it's going to be the router but what the hell is economy 7? Fingers crossed for midnight tonight.
Hi Ann
Do an ipconfig /all, and see when your lease expires. I've had a coupled of Netgear but never experienced any issues around midnight.
Economy 7 is off-peak electricity, a seven hour span starting somewhere around midnight, currently 00:30 for me.
Lease expires .. 09 December 2007 09:09:32
What is the lease anyway and how do you make it longer or can't you? Not that it's going to be the problem at that time.
I need a lesson on leasing please.
You don't have to worry about leasing, Ann, the computer and the router negotiate a period for which your machine IP address will last, the lease. It's renewed automatically, so you should never notice it happening. I was just curious to see if the time happened to be midnight.

I thought that as well. :-\
Ann
I've heard of this too.
See if this helps!

Thanks Matt, I hadn't seen that thread. Funnily enough I did see the thread linked to in one of the posts there. It goes to another discussion on The Scream! (used to be a moderator on there.. ha!). I will try the daylight hours ticking box tomorrow if what I've already done doesn't work tonight. I shall be waiting with bated breath at midnight every night now.. LOL
So, I was here with bated breath, Ann. Where were you?? :)

I noticed that Rik :P
So did it happen Ann?
oh .. I forgot to specifically notice. I was watching Casualty that I'd recorded earlier, but I think I'd have noticed if yahoo messenger had shut down and come back on again and it didn't. I didn't realise it was so late...
Rerun tomorrow then
Ann....WAKEY ....WAKEY ...too late.
I think she's just trying to build the tension, In. :)
Far more important things to do..like watching Casualty.
I've set Digiguide now to remind me just before midnight tomorrow.. should've done that tonight but I didn't realise I'd get so engrossed in Casualty. Also watched Have I Got News For You, the longer version that I'd recorded. Sorry guys.
Digiguide is cool! I've set it to say "Ann, don't forget to check if the line drops at midnight" at 3 minutes to. That'll do it.

No need for the " sorry " Ann, I am sure we were all just pulling your leg.
( I
nactive scratches his head and wonders how anyone could get engrossed in Casualty ) ;D ;D

Easy, watch 144 episodes back to back. ;D
I just watched two episodes back to back and I used to be a nurse so it's kinda nostalgic. I've got an episode of Holby City to watch now..
I think you should get the DVD set of House for Xmas, Ann. ;)
;D The only thing I have ever found remotely interesting in Casualty is watching the " extra's " walking the corridors with bits of paper in their hands, trying to look invisible. ;D
Series one of House is on Five US every weekday evening at the moment.. it's pure bliss.. series two starts in the new year.
Haven't you already seen series two, Ann?
To each his / her own Ann..as they say, I cannot stomach anything on Five US. :evilb:
It's the only thing I watch on Five US, In, and I only just found that.
Always watch telly on computer Rik, and only recently got a decent TV card (well, USB) with Freeview channels and recording capability. Didn't watch much television before.
Well, you'll enjoy House 2 (though if you don't want to wait, HMV were doing the boxed set for £12.99).
Digiguide should be a good companion to your style of viewing. :)
My computer has a Freeview and Satellite Card built in Ann, it also has a Remote Control, I have never used them, I must connect them up one of these days.

Very nice Simon, but really not necessary.. in this thread anyway.

Which TV adapter did you get Ann? Can you recommend it?
:)
Hi Mo, I got DigiTV by Nebula. http://www.nebula-electronics.com/
I got a master and slave USB model and use them with a powered hub. They take a fair bit of power to run, and I thought that would be the best option. It works well. I can watch one channel and record others. There are a few bugs with the software but nothing major and it's updated every now and then. It's easy to set the timer to record stuff and it just works really. I have to say that for me and the way I use television, it was worth every penny.
Thanks Ann, they sound good, but outside my price-range I'm afraid. ::)
:phew:

Well, for the second night running, I was here at midnight and Ann was not.
Am I being stood up? :o
I am here ;D but I was doing a tesco online shop, Rik, and spending an absolute fortune. Too easy to click this and that. But I did take note and no disconnection. So I guess it's sorted. Either that or it's intermittent.. ha! But really I think it was as someone said somewhere along the line, that it was checking IP and when I entered the IP myself it no longer had to check. Shame that the settings part of My Account said that it was best to leave it blank.

I've never had a problem, using a Netgear 834v2, 834G v3, or the 2 Wire 2700HGV. Odd...
Maybe it'll happen again tomorrow. I'll be all jittery every night at midnight now, I'll probably never recover.
Gin offer over on Tescos which is why I was late!

Ah, that's the problem Ann - you're supposed to
drink the gin, not pour it into the router. ;D :out:
I can't decide whether you're signalling a response, or lapping at the gin, Ann. ;)
 :beer1:
Ann, don't go to Sainsburys then, they have 2 bottles of spirits for £20, http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/58216/2-for-20-on-litre-bottles-of-spirit
....and don't go to Spain, cos you get 5 bottles for around £20.00, shame I never touch the stuff. ;)
Tescos offer is the same Glenn, probably explains why as they're competing against Sainsbury's. They've been putting the price down and down until it's got down to that.
I've never been to Spain, maybe that'll have to be my next holiday destination ;D

The end credits are quite exciting, knowing Match of the Day'll be on soon
Oh you just don't understand.. House was good tonight ;D
I always have trouble reconciling House and Bertie Wooster, Ann - it's hard to believe it's the same actor in so many ways. I am a House fan, btw, but not Casualty. ;)
