Title: Right you gaming nerds !?
Post by: Scott on Aug 30, 2006, 10:06:49
Here's a good one for you to get your heads around !

New laptop config:
AMD Turion 64 (ML-44)
2Gb ram
Dual GeForce Go 7900 GS cards
Dual 100gb striped for speed

I cannot get BF2 to run  >:( >:( >:(

Things tried so far:

Every time all I get is this (see error screen)

In addition I've bunged in the DxDiag output and easyInfo output as well ? Can anyone PUHLLEASSE point me in the right direction ?

Have you tried older graphics drivers?

the cards are not long out so one version back on the drivers actually won't support them !! They're dual, mobile & SLI-enabled so I'm probably going to have to wait for the next driver version for a stable operating setup  :'( :'(

One thing that  does make me suspicious is that the OS reports I'm on the 'Default monitor' with only a couple of cr@p low refresh rates which makes me wonder if the monitor drivers need updating too ! *sigh* and my support call routes to a helpdesk in india - premium = £1 a min or I can play email ping pong for weeks trying to get it fixed...getting mightily hacked off. Might just say 'fork it' and RMA the bugger - tell 'em it's not fit for purpose.

Will persevere

Hi all,

I'm no expert and have never played this game.  I just thought I'd chip in and as such break my duck for my first post  ;)

I read your original post and as with the others agree it definately looks graphics card driver/resolution related.  I'd query the resolution/widescreen too as you've noted?  If only to eliminate it.

I've not had chance to read through for relevance, (I'm at work but just having a nosey around as I've just signed up with IDNet this morning  :) ), but a quick Google pulled this forum link up.

As I say, I don't know if relevant or if you've pursued it already, I just quickly noted the widescreen references.

Cheers and good luck.

Thanks LAD,
I'd been through that post a couple of nights back (not downloading someone's Beta DX9 .dll and bunging it on my new baby thankyou very much !)

Am probably going to sit and download the 1.2 -> 1.4Beta incremental patch tonight and see what occurs !

those there are nvidia drivers that have been modified for better stability / performance and they are a firm favourite amongst the tech heads. As with most problems make sure everything EVERYTHING is updated including sound drivers, go to windows update and select custom instead, choose everything that applies to you (if u havent already) then go through everything that could possibly need updating!

All right mate...sounds a good plan. Think I might give these a stab before the second plan a 500Mb download of the full BF2 1.4 Beta client (which apparently has a fixed version of the c++ file I'm getting errors in ?!

Will post back what happens...thanks all for input.

ok..more news. Downloaded and patched the game with incrementals right up to 1.4 beta. Game still fell over at the same place but on a different path now after all the updated content went in...

So a flash of inspiration ocurred..I whipped the old TFT out and plugged it in the back and switched output modes on the lappie...sure enough...boom straight into the game, downloaded my old profile and I was online in glorious detail at 1024x768 so it looks to be down to a) this cr*ppy 'default monitor' driver on my lappie or b) poor widescreen support within the game.

I have read that's definitely there for some folks which leads me to believe I may have a monitor driver deficiency !!!

Hi ho hi ho...it's off to Evesham I go !

OK...

oh wait, ive had this problem once before! Quite simply, download the VERY FIRST patch, and install. Then, add the next verson to that, and the next verson to that (the smaller downloads ones) - its a error caused when a patch f**ks up.

EA are sooo bad when it comes to writing their games/patchs. BF2142 is no better, if worse :(
