Title: Printed Error
Post by: alan on Nov 17, 2007, 08:46:13
Any suggestions please..
.
When I start my PC up each time I get the following error.. It will not go away until I Cntl-alt-del it about 20-30 times. It started off only occasionally but now it does it on each reboot.
Sorry about the link to it I don't know how to post a copy of the error on this page.

Thanks

Posting a link is fine - I actually prefer it to cluttering the forum up with pictures.

All the links to the first four words of your query that google throws up are related to WOW. Do you play, and/or have you tried their forums?

Never heard of WoW.. Will do a further search see if I can dig deeper.
Thanks Colin.

Have you looked for the file it references, Alan?

I'm thinking maybe delete all temporary (.tmp) files?

That would be a starter, Lance, but I'm curious if the file is there at all.

Alan:

Have you done a full virus scan and malware sweep?

Have deleted all the .tmp files.. rebooted and it still comes up.
I have done a Virus Scan with BullGuard, nothing untoward.
Tenebril SpyCatcher isn't showing any naughties either.
Have done a Google on the file reference that isn't throwing much up either.

Have you checked for malware, though, Alan? You need something like Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/), or Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html), or even both (malware checkers are not like AV, you can run two).

If you go to Start > Run and in the run box type "msconfig", from memory there is a startup tab on which lists all of the programs which run on start up of your machine.

Maybe take a look for any you don't recognise, untick the box and reboot. If you then find something isn't starting up which you know normally does, you can simply retick the box. In addition, if the message box doesn't come up, you could re-enable one by one until you find what it is.

Thanks Rik.. I didn't know that. I thought I was covered... Have D/L Ad-aware
Its scanning at the moment.
.
Thanks Lance... I have already unticked quite a lot in startup to give me a quicker
start. I have not however done a process of elimination, but will do one.

This is where we need remote control of your desktop. ;)

Well, having run Ad-aware it found 61 gremlins. I thought I was fully covered having AV and SC.
Something else I've learnt. I'm happy to say after 6-7 reboots I cannot get the "Printed Error"
to appear again. Many Thanks Colin, Lance and Rik. Sorted me out again. :)
Keep up the good work.
.

Alan

Malware programs just don't seem to be all encompassing, Alan. I generally run a couple, they always seem to find different things.

Hopefully, that's the end of your error message anyway. :)
