Title: Sorting files in folders
Post by: Broadback on Nov 13, 2007, 16:24:17
Having progressed greatly with help here I would now like to be able to sort files within a folder in alpha/numeric order by title. Is it possible, if so how please?  I am organising each folder to contain 50 files. Oh, bit of important information, in Windows XP.

You can do it in Explorer by clicking on the name column header. It will show a small up arrow to indicate the sort order, clicking on any other column will sort on that column's entries, and the arrow will appear on the column header. A second click changes the sort order to descending.

I have a feeling though, that displaying the file names is not all you want to do?

If you can elaborate, I'll try to think of a solution.

When in the folder you want to sort, change the view to either "detail" or "list", and then click on the "name" heading. This will sort the files as you want.

Or what Rik said...

Thanks for those suggestions.  Lance's one works fine, it stays in order even after closing then reopening the folder.  The reason I want it in order is to find any file easily, without having to go through search.  I have several hundred of these files and would like to be able to pinpoint a particular one easily.
