Title: what is email account name?
Post by: Broadback on Oct 25, 2007, 15:01:55
A silly question from a silly person but I am trying to set up an email account in Outlook express and failing miserably.  I usually use my own email and SeaMonkey, however I wish to use an IDNET freemail account and Outlook. It is failing to connect on receive, though I can send ok.  The sticking point seems to be Account Name and possibly password. Is the account name my User Name and Password my email password set up by me, or is it the name and password given to my by IDNET when I joined to gain access to their excellent service? I have tried both, and combinations of to no avail.  This is the failure message I get:

Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'pop3.idnet.net', Server: 'pop3.idnet.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Authorisation method not valid', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

The error message sounds as if you're trying to logon using SSL, which is not supported.

You can check your username and password via the accounts page > email setup.

No one can stand a clever dick, especially when they put one right!  ;D
Thanks Rik, bit annoying calling it by account name not user name.
