Title: Avatars?
Post by: Noreen on Oct 24, 2007, 17:30:06
I've been thinking of posting an avatar but I'm not certain how to do it. I've seen the section in my Profile where I assume it goes but would someone please explain the process. Thanks.

Hi Noreen

In your profile, go to Forum profile information, and then select I will upload my own picture. Hit the browse button, and find the file on your computer, then hit Open. Finally, click on Change Profile.

If you're linking to something in your webspace (or elsewhere), then use the option above - I have my own pic - and enter the URL, then click on Change Profile.

So I can just upload an image from my computer directly into that section? I think that I've read that there is a max of 65x65 pixels, is that correct and are there any other restrictions?

On another forum to which I belong most people have an avatar of a photo of themselves, they think that it's nice to see who you are "talking to" but it doesn't seem to be popular here. Is there a reason?

Hi Noreen

Attempts to start a photo gallery here have never been very successful, I don't know why. I started using my photo for the reasons you give, I thought it might be nice (or possibly not :)) for people to know 'who' they were talking to, however much an image adds to the words.

The software will re-size most images, it's only animated ones that need to be sized before upload, otherwise the animation fails. Otherwise, yes it's as simple as uploading the image you want to use.

Well, I think that it's a good idea, Rik and will see if I can upload a photo.

It's the same avatar that I use on the other forum that I mentioned. It's about three years old now.

I bet it was really taken yesterday. ;)

I keep thinking I'll really wake people up by digging out a photo of me at my pimply best, circa age 13.  >:D

I put a 20 year old photo up of myself on one of my first forums (I mean one of the first I joined), and it was highly embarrassing when I eventually came clean!  Needless to say, I don't frighten people with one now!  ;D

You'd be even more disappointed if you saw the one which isn't on a full moon!  ;D

Oh yes, Steve. Of course, we had to stand absolutely still for half an hour during the exposure, but the results were quite good. ;)
