Title: Host wanted
Post by: Ann on Oct 13, 2007, 13:54:16
I bought my own domain and host it with 123-reg which is unfortunately a part of Pipex.  The web part is fine.  I only have a diddy website so don't need all bells and whistles.  It's the email part that is total cr*p.  It's always breaking and emails take hours to arrive and they don't update their status page so you never know what's happening.  So, I want to move away and try another host.

So any suggestions guys?

Try 1&1, Ann. They had some problems in February, but have been rock solid otherwise:

Purple Cloud seem to have been getting good reviews lately too:

Thank you.  I took a quick look and having nothing else to go on, I'm inclined to choose Purple Cloud simply because I prefer their website.  I also rather like the name.  It's a bit like some of those old ISPs with the cool names.  I used to be an ISP nerd doncha know  :eek4:

I can reccommend www.webhosting.uk.com (http://www.webhosting.uk.com).

They were the chapest I could find at the time - but they use the excellent cpanel interface and have lots of juicy extras.

Ah, too late I'm afraid.  I did the deed today with purplecloud.. only took a couple of hours for my email to start flowing.  Woohoo.  It's funny but after months and months of my trying to get some answers from 123-Reg aka Pipex about the rotten email service, they finally, today, put a notice up saying that they know it's cr*p but it'll get better soon... but no more chances from me   :out:
