Title: Service restored
Post by: Rik on Oct 09, 2007, 10:29:42
Martin's given Clunker a good talking to, and blogs are now restored.

In addition, he's sorted out the permissions problem that was causing issues with modifying web space via FTP.

Thanks, Martin. :)

Always has been, 9pm. I didn't watch a huge amount of TV in the 70s, too busy with career and new marriage, though I made an exception for the Ascent of Man. :)

Hi!! Just recived an email this morning (Sat) from support informing me of work being carried out to restore email back to normal. It's great that support take time out to keep us up to speed on things happening, much appreciated.  I'd like to say a big thanks to Simon and Co for their hard work, time spent and perseverance in sorting out a situation that's just one of those things in life which can't be helped.  Been with Idnet for 8 months and don't regret joining for one minute. Thanks again...  Brianm.

well service may have been restored for you, but mail.com email account no longer works for me, since this afternoon, nor is it accessible via web mail. Just pleased I pay for an idnet.co.uk mail account,  because so far the idnet.com one is like being back at plusnet, never thought I would use those two words in the same sentence.  :(

Hi thanks for your responses, at least I know it is personal now :P,

Since this afternoon it has been impossible to log into webail (log in failed) also MS outlook reports that

Task 'mail.idnet.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.  The server responded: -ERR Authentication failed.'

Both webmail access and MSoutlook were working until friday night prior to the planned maintenance, account was set up with Miriam just last week so I know its not settings this end and the account details on the portal correctly show my .com email account and password.

Post by: Simon on Oct 13, 2007, 23:07:15
Sorry, I'm a little confused.  Are we talking about an idnet.com account, or a mail.com account, as in http://www.mail.com (http://www.mail.com)?

'mail.idnet.com' is incorrect, as far as I am aware.  The servers for idnet.com mail are pop3.idnet.com for incoming mail, and smtp.idnet.com for outgoing mail.  If you have a Mail.com account, the servers are pop1.mail.com and smtp1.mail.com.

Can you verify which account you are having problems with, and check the server settings in Outlook, please?  :)

Post by: colirv on Oct 14, 2007, 09:27:45
My idnet.com smtp has (since yesterday) started blocking some outgoing mail. Any spam that I'm forwarding to spamcop.net to be reported is blocked, everything else is being let through. Previously everything went through without bother. I'll give support a ring in the morning to have this fixed (I'm very keen to report any spam I receive) but thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has found things have changed since the rebuild.

My apologies for the confusion, I was referring to pop3.idnet.com, as set up with Miriam at IDnet. My point is that I fail login for the webmail as well, so setup (which is correct by the way) in MS outlook is irrelevant at this point.

It appears that I am not alone other members are also facing this problem as of yesterday afternoon following the planned maintenance as discussed on another forum.

Some issues were expected as DNS propagation occurred, but that should be complete by now. Have you changed your original password by any chance?

This must be quite a hit and miss thing, the work on the email servers was if memory served me right completed in the morning, ahead of schedule. I have no issues with pop3 either, they did say there could be some dns issues on some mail accounts so maybe this is the problem.

Hi Rik,
No I have not changed my password for the email account, I am beginning to think it has something to do with when the email account was set up, the other person complaining of the same problem I think only set up the account last week as he is a new customer, perhaps its just a coincidence that both accounts have been setup between the time the original server failed and the planned maintenance.

It's possible that the accounts have got caught up in the backup/restore process and lost. Have you checked that you're using the settings shown on your accounts page? If so, my guess is that the account has been chewed. :( I've alerted IDNet to this thread, so it will get sorted, but maybe not today. It might be a useful exercise to create a new account and see if that works OK.

Rik I have tried your suggestion of setting up another email address unfortunately webmail log in fails, so this is, as you thought, an account problem at least my .co.uk mail is OK.
Title: Re: Service restored
Post by: Rik on Oct 14, 2007, 10:39:08
Actually, I expected that to work. :( It's certainly bigger than a mail issue for you. Support will be taking a look at this thread when they get my message, but you may want to give them a call in the morning to check that your settings are OK - they can look at the server for you. (You are using the correct mail servers I take it, ie not mail.idnet.com?)
Title: Re: Service restored
Post by: thetrevone on Oct 14, 2007, 10:50:09
Yes I am using the right servers, but in the last case I just tried webmail access without setting up a new account in MS outlook. as there didnot seem much point if webmail access login fails.
Title: Re: Service restored
Post by: Rik on Oct 14, 2007, 10:52:39
I'd try the Outlook setup, just to see if it works. I take it the Accounts > Email page does say 'ready' against the email address?
Title: Re: Service restored
Post by: Gary on Oct 14, 2007, 10:53:07
One odd thing I did notice was if I try and log in using the password to webmail it never lets me in even though I'm using the correct password, if I copy and paste it from the IDNet homepage it works fine :-\ but this has been like that from the outset

Title: Re: Service restored

I wondered that, I used a complicated password  ::) I could change it but if I check my webmail I just copy and paste to be honest, with all the work that had to be done Rik I did not want to change anything till things were fixed, thing is pop3 access works fine and the password was typed in by hand :-\

Hi,
I am a new user here, and just last night tried to set up email, web mail and ftp access.  However, it seems that, no matter what I try with any of these, I cannot get anything to accept my password.  Continually get Authentication errors!  Is it possible that the password originally set up for my account has become corrupted somehow ?

Message from Cute FTP is below:

COMMAND:>   [14/10/2007 11:07:59] USER ragdoll
[14/10/2007 11:07:59] 331 User ragdoll OK. Password required
COMMAND:>   [14/10/2007 11:07:59] PASS *****
      [14/10/2007 11:07:59] 530 Login authentication failed
ERROR:>      [14/10/2007 11:07:59] Not logged in.

Hi Rik,
Migrated to ID Net from Plusnet last Thursday.  Tried using FTP last night for the first time using Cute FTP v8 Professional.  It seems that it just does not recognise my password, as notified to me by ID Net in the 'Web Space Setup' page on my account.  Seems also that my Email client has the same problem with my ID Net email address, and also when I access the web mail page.  MS Outlook gives an error message when checking the account - Authentication error.  A little confused here   :-\

Yes Rik it says 'ready', One of first things Miriam said last week when I called regarding setting up the .com email account, as I was having a problem geting the setup right in MS Outlook, was that regardless of this it should be working in webmail and of course it was, the fact that it is not now and neither is the new one makes me think I would be wasting time and yet another 'enter network password' pop up to deal with. I will wait until Monday and call

When it was first launched, a number of people experienced problems with FTP, as the way the address/password is given on the web page is only strictly for the  NVu set up. I use FireFTP in Firefox, and separate out my username and password from the URL. Have you tried this? I know some versions of SmartFTP gave problems too, so if you are using Firefox, it might be worth trying the addon.

QuoteSeems also that my Email client has the same problem with my ID Net email address, and also when I access the web mail page.  MS Outlook gives an error message when checking the account - Authentication error.  A little confused here   :-\

I think you need to talk to support on this as I can't ask you the questions I would need to in a public forum, and I can't see what is happening server side. I have made support aware of this thread, though, so they will be taking a look I'm sure.

As I said to Snaggie, this is one of those areas where we can't do too much user-to-user, as we would need information you wouldn't want published in the forum. :( A call to support is definitely the best way forward I'm afraid.
