Hi all, using both IE and Firefox, web pages are not downloading completely and the download indicator {?} runs continuously[running now]. I use Comodo firewall but still same result on or off . Seems to happen with https pages although very slow in general to load pages .Connected at 4.1mbs .Any ideas ?

Hi Rik , Happening on Argos when I try to go to 'trolley' ; Selftrade when I try to log on to my account ;banks same .I need the internet to be working for me and I may have to change isp if I can't get this fixed , although it may be a problem with my set up . However still cannot read my webmail completely on idnet{see previous message]

Sounds like this only affects secure pages, ie https servers? Would that be right?
I've had a word with support, they will be contacting you about the problem. It sounds like settings on your browsers or security software. Are you running Vista? This is known to do exactly what you are describing.
They will also talk you through your email issue. :)

As far as I know, the only issue with Vista and broadband, is with the incompatible USB Modems. I'm a bit surprised that this was mentioned as a possible cause as it sounds like a generic "let's blame vista" answer. Ho hum...

I believe it was something to do with a firewall setting Rob. As I don't run Vista, and don't have GA's problem, I can't verify that, but was prepared to take support's word for it.

I didn't say that it had never happened under Vista. I guess similar problems have happened for users of XP, 2000, ME, NT4, 98, 95, linux, mac etc etc. Just because it's happened on occasions on a particular os doesn't make it a known problem of the whole platform. So if we can quote a few examples of people having similar problems we can say it's "known to do this", so every support request would be "XP?, it's known to do that" etc. It's just sloppy thinking to blame a whole platform just because you've heard of a few issues with a few users who have had difficulty. It doesn't help anyone. SP1 will be available when it's made available. It very short-sighted to assume that it will fix the world for people with unusual problems. It's less than eight months since Vista was released. if a Service pack had come by now, then some people would be bleating about oh it's too soon, wait for SP2.

An operating system is never complete as such, SP1 is really important for vista as it was for XP, anyway the suggestion of being short sighted was not how the post was meant to be perceived at all. As of now there are many known bugs with Vista, and this problem seemed to follow along the lines of one of these bugs. With each new SP new issues will occur but as most people will tell you that first service pack sorts a lot of bugs out and makes the system much more stable, the first incarnation of anything so complex will have issues and it is not my or anyone's intent to condemn the platform, but this is why after the first service pack the OS is generally considered to be ready for mainstream business use. :)
For the record, I use Vista - Business, and have no problems as described. I also use secure sites with no trouble.
But I do have time to keep a very 'clean' computer.
One thing to remember is that Vista was designed to be as secure as possible. So a check of all security settings may solve GAs problem.
I have found also that although RWin and MTU are set dynamically by Vista, a play with the router MTU settings can improve things.

I have asked a friend of mine who is an Architect for Microsoft about this as he knows a lot about this issue than myself, he says its more likely to happen on a webpage if it uses AJAX to do cool things like late loading of content, also since antiphishing is a service now he would think there is potential for slow browsing using IE7 with its antiphishing filter turned on and possibly firefox with some plugins as well, and suggests turning off the phishing filter in IE7 if you have third party security installed that has its own phishing filters built in for for now, it can all vary so much from box to box depending on what you have installed it is hard to completely pin down issues as no two people will in all probability have the same setup and the same hardware to make a direct comparison. and as MoHux has said it never hurts to tweak your router either.

Hi guys, sorry to have caused problems I'm running XP2 . I think that I have solved the problem [fingers crossed] I downloaded an update to Zone Alarm which did not work but instead locked up the system .I was unable to uninstall as I kept getting message that a dll was missing . So I 'manually ' uninstalled. Then I installed Comodo .Having now taken that out things seem to be working ! But I am reduced to Windows firewall . Once again apologies for wasting your time .

I'm not sure why you're reduced to the Windows firewall though, isn't the Comodo one working?
Rik thanks for being sympathetic. To get the system to work I had to uninstall Comodo --it was either blocking on it's own or interacting with the remaining locked Zone Alarm

Ah, got you. If you're behind a good NAT/SPI router firewall, with AV and malware protection, a software firewall is really about stopping anything going to the new without your knowledge. Keep an eye out for suspicious activity, but you should be OK.
GA, the answer is to re-install ZA, then it should uninstall correctly should you still want to change to Comodo.
