Hi, I was wondering if any of you out there with a Netgear DG834G/DG834 has noticed the new firmware version 4.0.1.30 which just says not for north America and fixes are as follows: The DSL driver was updated to improve interoperability. Now normally they post UK specific firmware but this seems for anyone not in NA, thing is do you trust the information on their site? I have had horrid problems with their tech support sometimes so I am casting the firmware on to the gorgeously calm waters of IDNetters for your consideration, is this firmware meant for the UK as well? ;D
In a word, no. The differences are usually very specific with router firmware. I would not recommend you try it (I don't even like or use the latest UK version).
Thanks for the heads up Rik ;D
My pleasure. Like the avatar, btw. :)
Cheers ;D
I think I have the latest UK firmware for my DG834G, but when I upgraded, I never noticed any difference. What don't you like about it, Rik?
The .28 version of the firmware fails to log losses of sync, Simon.
Hi Rik, I had noticed that sync issue with .28 but for some reason Netgear pulled the .20 from the site :( so I am for now stuck with .28 as I don't want to regress to the .06 version and lose wireless multi media power save and gain all the Trend stuff back again. As for version .30 I called Netgear and mentioned how ambiguous the version statement was "Version 4.01.30 (not for users in North America)" and mentioned it does not say not for the UK, well that ended up like swimming through treacle ::) I did find some sites with version .20 but I wont download from unofficial sources, I just don't trust them, I'm way to paranoid ;D
If you want to PM me with an email address, I can send you the .20 version.
Thanks Rik, will do
I think that it is worth pointing out that there are three versions of the DG834G, all with different firmware. I have a "v2" running firmware V3.01.25, there is a V3.01.31(UK).
I am inclined to leave it at the .25 version on the "if it works don't fix it" principle, or am I just chicken ? ;D.
Has anyone any experience of the .31 firmware on a v2 DG834G ?
I haven't, Steve, but I agree with the "if it ain't broke..." principle. I find that often Netgear introduce bugs and add little or no functionality for the average user.

I have a version 3 DG834G and the .28 introduced a few bugs but also added wireless multimedia power save and binned the trend stuff which was useful, removing the loss of sync event was not (Cheers Rik for firmware to sort that) If there are adsl driver firmware upgrades I think watch the Netgear forums and see the opinions there, I had a DG8343PN which was a dog but the first firmware meant if you used the full compliment of 64 characters for 256 bit wireless encryption you ended up with an unsecured wireless network, useful that! I managed to get a refund after no firmware upgrades to address this were available after 3 mths even though I had informed Netgear who admitted the issue. I sometimes wonder how these things get pass *cough* quality control ;) but a firmware upgrade did appear eventually so in that case upgrading would have been worth it, but in general after years of being around computers and other electrical devices with options teasing you to update, I agree if it is not broken don't fix it ;D
