Title: Asbestos surveys
Post by: zappaDPJ on Oct 30, 2026, 20:08:06
It appears if you need a hole drilling though your wall for a cable the engineer will need sight of an asbestos survey. I believe this applies to any property built before the year 2000.

This maybe common knowledge but not in my area because a local website is full of posts from people who have had both Sky and OpenReach engineers refuse installations for the lack of a survey which can cost up to £500.

Wow!  My place was built in 2002, so it wouldn't have been an issue, but they managed to run my fibre to a downstairs (outdoor cupboard) Gigabit phone socket, convert that and the socket upstairs to Ethernet, so I didn't actually have to have a hole drilled.
