The big day arrived and I've moved to SoGEA and VoIP. The Broadband move was OK but the VoIP is something else.
I'm using a FritzBox 7530AX with a Gigaset N300 and decided it would be simpler to use this with a Grandstream ATA. At least the phones Gigaset - S700H Pro - will register with the base.
Set it all up. If I phone in, I get a msg "unavailable", phone out and the message is either silence, or sometimes caller on hold.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to where I can go next? It's quite possible that it's not fully setup at iDNet's end, but at present I'm in the dark. The only other thing I can think of is that I need to do some port forwarding in the Fritz.
My sister moved to Zen for Broadband and voice. She purchased a single Fritz handset to go with the Zen supplied Fritzbox and the whole move including changing to full fibre was flawless.
I don't know how helpful this is but when I switched, the light was on the router saying the VoIP phone service was enabled before it actually went live. IDNet gave me a switchover date and it did indeed switch on that date at around 8am.
Did you get either the router and / or the ATA from IDNet? If so, then I believe they configure it from their end.
The Fritz is my own but the ATA is from iDNet and should be fully configured. It's visible on the network but I can't use a browser to get into it and see what's happening.
The telephony isn't switched on the Fritz so it may be there's no SIP ports open. I'll give that a go. If it doesn't work I shall have to get back to iDNet but since the Fritz router is not one they support I'm not hopeful. One advantage of a single supplier.
I don't know if iDNet supply the U-Boss settings so I could try using the FX port on the Fritz as that might be worth a go.
They did offer me a TP-Link router but I'm averse to them as there's too much chatter about poor security. OK it's the Internet, but El Reg was recently reporting a UK National Cyber Centre report on Russian hacking of routers with TP-Link being the only ones mentioned by name.
Just tried calling with 44 as a prefix in case they forgot that in the configuration but I get 'call cannot be completed at this time'. I think this is one for iDNet so I'll ring them on Monday.
Just had a look at port forwarding and I think it can't be done. There are no port forward settings that apply to VOIP, it's all http or server stuff. The Fritz appears to expect it all to take place within the device, so I would need to apply the UBoss settings and then use the FX port rather than hand it off to the ATA.
Don't see why iDNet shouldn't be able to supply the settings but we'll see. If they can't I might have to try Voipfone or possibly A&A. At least the Uboss service is only a one month contract.
Don't know if it might help, but searching for "fritz box uboss settings" on Google brings up an AI overview of the required configurations.
I don't know if iDNet/UBoss provide a STUN server, but that setting is what would allow VoIP to work through a NAT router.
@Simon: That is helpful thank you. Whhilst it doesn't give the full settings, at least not that I could find, it does put me on the right track.
I think the Fritz is set up by design for all of the telephony settings to be internal to the device rather than hand it off to an ATA.
@Nowster: Whilst rummaging round the Internet for help on UBoss, I did find the Voipfone settings for a Fritz. These were helpful, but I still need the actual UBoss settings from iDNet so I'll give them a ring in the morning.
I have tried to get to the UI of the ATA - Grandstream 801v2. It is visible on the network so I tried to use the IP to access the UI but was locked out. "Server busy - try later". Can't see anything in the router settings that might explain this.
If all else fails I shall have to move the telephony to Voipfone. The Uboss is only a one month contract so not a great loss, albeit annoying. They have a decent reputation and appear to have knowledge of the FritzBox.
As I said in my original post, I'm not keen on the TP-Link and would rather keep the Fritz if I can since it will also cope with full fibre if that ever appears round here.

You might find A&A more reliable and cheaper. (£12 porting cost, £1.80/month rental)
Even if you don't, their support page might be helpful for examples:

Note that if the ATA has two ethernet ports, you can by default only access the admin pages when connected to the "inside" interface.
Just to wrap this up, it appears the problem was at iDNet's end. Phoned them this morning and Chloe fiddled with the settings and it all now works. Thankfully I don't need to fiddle with port forwarding. The Fritz is a decent router but for someone used to Drayteks the UI is rather confusing.
Thank you both for the suggestions.
