From looking at my L8NC graph, I also had a period with no connection at the same time as you - I can only guess that either BT (most likely) or IDNet were having work done on their systems.

I got up this morning and my router had a failed connection (That is to say, the ADSL was connected but the link was down) and I had to reboot to clear it so I am guessing that the network went down over night, probably for maintenance. Unfortunately I rebooted before checking the log so I can't tell you when it happened  :(

Cheers

I had a similar issue here 02:10 - 02:17, PPP down but no loss of sync.

Looks like exchange work.

Well i just got a call from idnet. They've notice my connection going down several times last night, Andrew said last time i had 38 resyncs in one morning.

BT coming out on tuesday as they can't find anything wrong there end.

Well i just got a call from idnet.

Can I ask what prompted them to call - did you contact them first or is it simply great customer service?

Yes lost mine the same time, thats the first loss of connection for over 2 months.

Annoyingly my profile has dropped a bit even though I resynched at the same speed !!!

Got to wait for it to climb back up again !!!

Has your profile dropped?
My sync rate / profile is always changing. I'm having quite abit of trouble with the line at the mo.. first time its happened but this week the noise margin has been going into the negatives.

I've been in contact with them for a few months now trying to get my line sorted. They told me to contact BT 150 to test for noise (i mentioned broadband by mistake) and the bloke came back with a 98% line quality (that makes 2% noise?) i phoned idnet back with the results, They contacted BTo with my request to up my noise margin to 12 (requested this like 10 times) and they've come back saying theres no problems they can see and wont change the noise margin even thou i'm getting connection drops and hangs and they want to send an engineer out to check this end.

Miriam said on the phone this morning that i've had quite a few connection drops during the night as they've must of been monitoring it there end which explains why i couldn't do no surfing on anything this morning when i got up until i rebooted the router.

My router says "LCP down" for 2 minutes from 1am this morning and I'm now getting much slower speeds.

Your profile is OK, Noreen, so it suggests exchange or server congestion on the speed tests.

So what about this, Rik?

As I said, Noreen, the profile is OK, so it suggests exchange issues or server load on testing. Have you checked your exchange here (http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/)? (Though I fear BT's reporting of congestion is, shall we say, optimistic.)

If you think you have a specific problem, it would be worth checking with support, as they will be able to carry out some tests.

Last time i checked what speeds my line can handle with the bt tester it said 6mbps or greater (when i was on tiscali)..

I've just checked now and it says 4.5mbps or greater..

Do you think something has changed since i migrated to get slower stats?
Title: Re: Anyone else?
Post by: Rik on Aug 24, 2007, 12:05:36
What does the BT tester give for your profile?
Title: Re: Anyone else?
Post by: psp83 on Aug 24, 2007, 12:10:48
6000.

I'm sync'd at 8128 but i rebooted this morning and i had a sync of 7238 this morning. So i guess the profile hasn't caught up yet.

Even so, it's way higher than the estimate. The estimator does adjust to follow actual connection results, but it seems like it's developed a pessimistic streak for you. I wouldn't worry too much at this point as it doesn't directly affect your service.

Thanks, nothing about my exchange on your link. I'll see how it goes over the weekend, I presume that Support won't be open on Bank Holiday Monday.

Anyone know if theres a problem with idnet?

Not that I know of, apart from the outage, my speeds are normal.

Can you run a BT test and see what your profile is?
Title: Re: Anyone else?
Post by: GameR on Aug 24, 2007, 17:37:57
ok i just done one heres the results,
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 832 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3516 kbps
Title: Re: Anyone else?
Post by: Rik on Aug 24, 2007, 17:40:02
Given the variation between the two, I'd suspect exchange congestion or server load at the test sites. If it doesn't improve, give support a ring, or drop them an email, on Tuesday.

GameR, very similar to my results.

My speed has also dropped since the outage, lowest recorded speed ever at DSL Zone, something isn't right. :'(

Strange, just did another test at DSL Zone, it is now showing highest ever at 6916..

I found this article relating to K.com ( formerly Kingston Communications Hull ).

The KCOM Group and other Internet Service Providers are experiencing a general network issue that has been affecting Internet and Email services across the UK today. This fault has resulted in some customers experiencing intermittent Internet and Email service.

It relates to their connections with BT, and relates to yesterday, so this may well have been more widespread than we imagined.

Yes I know K.com has it's own network in Hull ;), but this relates to their external connections on to the wider BT network/s.
