Title: Star Ware
Post by: stevenrw on Aug 19, 2007, 17:46:50
I have Norton 2007 but I keep on getting Starware installed.
How can I block it from getting onto my PC in the first place?
Grrr...

According to the Symantec site, the file has to be executed locally to install the software. Have you clicked on any uncertain links recently?

Removal instructions can be found here:

Usually stuff claiming to be something whereas they arent...or they install over "cr*p" with them. I dont think any of the norton suites are any good. I would say first off having www.hitmanpro.nl installed would be good. Also maybe try the new online nod32 scanner (free)

Anything that looks dodgy, dont even tempt yourself to try it ;)

Exactly, me neither.  Nod32 for the win! :) My mate used to use Norton but it's just bloat-ware and not that good.  Converted him to Nod32 also. ;)

For 2 and a bit years I haven't had one problem.

@Steven,

Do you run Ad-Aware and Spybot regularly to remove any offending spyware?  Perhaps download the "HOST" file from the net (it automatically blocks dodgy sites, etc) and is loaded when windows boots.

Linky here...
