Title: Billion 8800NL and PPPoE passthrough
Post by: nowster on Oct 10, 2020, 18:24:43
Tip...

If you're terminating PPPoE on an internal router of your own, connected to the Billion 8800NL and you want to run it in PPPoE passthrough mode, that's not what you select on the modem side.

You need to select "Bridging", not "PPPoE" with the PPPoE pass-through option ticked.

My parents are now back on iDNet having had complete replacement of kit after a lightning strike a couple of months ago.

I'd sent them a temporary stop-gap solution using a personal router (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01K6MHRJI), a USB 4G modem (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B011BRKPLE) and a SMARTY SIM.

I was then able to configure the Billion modem though a laptop connected to the 4G router using ethernet, and then through their WiFi. Keyhole surgery over VPN.

Switching from the damaged Netgear to the Billion has boosted their bandwidth from 4Mbps to 5Mbps.

I was last allowed to visit my parents in July.  :(

Internet is essential during this time.  I hate to think how we would have coped with this pandemic if it had happened 20 years ago.

Indeed! A lot of their communications now are by email, including some essential medical stuff.
