I've had a lot of back problems over the past year and my chair (excuse of) is actually making it a lot worse. My physiotherapist has recommended I get a better one preferably rated as orthapaedic.
Do any of you guys have one or an equivalent chair that has helped your poor back?
I haven't seen any good prices from any shops (all shops offering them seem to be specialist small shops whereas a larger retail shop would offer them cheaper right?)
Plus the cushion on the bottom has kinda turned to cardboard its so thin...i c an even feel the plastic below sticking into me as the joints - ouchy.
Its actually forcing me to have a break at least every hour :|

Im supposed to be getting one of those kneeling chairs for free off some1 (plus postage) to see if it helps but it isnt going to be a longterm solution

I too have back problems, the only chair that suits me is one with a hinged / swivel back, so that by pushing my back against it, I can ease pressure from the pain points, this of course may not suit your back pain, but something to consider.
It isn't easy finding a suitable chair, so good luck with your quest.

That sounds good to me. You mean the type that with the backing that constantly goes against your back (adjusts to your posture) by going forward when u lean forward and going back when you lean back. I found with my other chair (executive style) most of the time my back would be nowhere near the back of the seat unless i leant all the way - by which my pc would then be out of reach :/
At your age I didn't have a back, Sam - but then computers weren't around, so I rarely sat for that long. :)
I use a standard office-type swivel chair, but it has the ability to adjust the back to provide support, ie it can be moved forward. In addition, it has armrests, which stop be lolling too much to the side. I top off the comfort with a memory foam cushion, which provides good padding for long periods at a time.
At home I have a poor chair - so won't go into that!
However, at work I have a very nice chair! It's an office chair, but it adjusts for height, the back adjusts and can be locked in position or do what Rik describes above and be constantly moving. Finally, the seat itself can also be tilted either backwards or forwards.
I found prior to having this chair, towards the end of the day my back would start to complain. But because it is so adjustable, I have found the perfect position and no long get any pain.
Before I got a laptop I used an office type chair from Staples. It has a gas lift and has the option of being fixed or rocking (although the angle of the back doesn't alter relative to the seat). It also has a high back and armrests and I found it quite comfortable. In fact I also bought another for my daughter's desk but I don't use either of them now and mean to give them to a local charity shop. However if anybody wants one (or both) and are prepared to collect them from Warrington then you can have them for free. If you're interested PM me.
I already have one chair like that - the back doesnt move but the chair itself can rock, has armrests etc. but its either sit all the way back against the back and have no access to your pc (same for rocking) or lean forwards and bust ur back whilst using ur pc...
Think i just have to aim for a chair that has an adjustable back piece with plenty of intensive padding :p
