Title: Possible Migration to IDNet
Post by: jaydub on Nov 14, 2017, 15:00:09
Just got to the end of my initial 12 months with Pulse8 and decided that the grass might be greener elsewhere and took advantage of a free 3 month Fibre offer with Aquiss.

However the actual experience has shown the grass to be somewhat yellower than expected.

Average pings are double what they were before and the TBB single thread speed test results are all over the place, particularly during the working day, when business traffic is prioritised.

Martin at Aquiss has agreed to release me from my contract, but if I do jump elsewhere then I need to ensure I'm not jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

At the end of the day, I do realise that my expectations of what I should eb achieved from the line in terms of rock solid single thread speeds isn't necessarily endorsed by most ISPs.

IDNet have always prided themselves on the running their network with plenty of bandwidth, so it would be really great to see your TBB speed test results and BQM graphs for your fibre connections.

Here is what I am currently seeing on Aquiss:

Many thanks for your assistance.

My line is unlikely to be typical because the infrastructure around these parts leaves something to be desired.

As Zappa implies, quite a lot can depend where you live and be outside the control of the ISP, but a couple of recent speedtests:

Live BQMs (IPv4 and IPv6) are in my sig.

Thanks Zappa and Bill for your speedtests and BQMs.

Here are my Pulse8 and Aquiss ones for comparison.

Tuesday last week with Pulse8:

Tuesday this week with Aquiss:

Spt the difference!!

My Pulse8 speed tests are very similar to yours.

I would get this sort of result 75% of the time:

but have the odd one like this

I'll try and get a speedtest done tomorrow from my desktop PC (wifi results aren't looking too great)

Thanks.

Your wifi speed tests may not be ;ooking that great, but I'd swap BQM graphs for you in an instant.

Here's my last 24 hours:

Sorry, forgot the other day. It seems that my homeplugs also affect the result so I had to sit next to the router with an ethernet cable on my laptop to test this. >_>;

I'm on 55/10.

Just as an update, I took advantage of the Black Friday deal and should be joining you shortly.  I have elected to go with the Fluid Data/TTB option, so will keep my fingers crossed about how it all pans out.

Well, I've been on IDNet for just over a week.

The BQM graphs are definitely better than my Aquiss ones, however my single thread speeds are a bit up and down (from 20 up to 73 with an average of ~60 Mbps on an 80/20 line).

I'm working with Brian to try and troubleshoot the underlying causes and am impressed with the support so far.

Certainly not totally ruled out it being a local problem and the next step is to try a different router.

Just wondered whether any of you guys were seeing variation in your TBB speed test results or if it is just me (and therefore pointing to it being local.

I really would appreciate knowing whether you guys get a rock solid TBB single thread speeds all the time or see some variation.

My single thread speeds have varied from 46 to 71 Mbps over teh last 24 hours.

This is a speedtest I've just run on my fibre connection which is fairly typical, I can't say I've noticed any difference in single thread speeds since I came back to Idnet around 3 months ago. I certainly did see low single thread speeds at times when I was with Plusnet.

mine used to vary by a fair amount but idnet changed something on my connection and now they are stable

Just heard back from Brian today and i am to be moved from the TTB backhaul to BTW backhaul to try and rule at any problems with the LLU kit at the exchange.  Two week wait to see whether there is any improvement.
