After singing the praises of Microsoft W10 and Edge at all times, yesterday I ran into a problem and could not open anything within Edge. After trying to find a cure on the net (using IE) I gave up and contacted Microsoft.
They set up a chat link straight away and tried to sort the problem out. After that failed I allowed a direct link to my computer and after about 1 hour he decided that there was some corruption within the files so he decided that the best way forward was to do a reinstall from the last major update this year.
He assured me that I would not lose any programs or settings and logged onto the Microsoft site. At this point he said it would be automatic from here on in and said I would be able to oversee it my self. So after 1.5hrs he logged off.
The update completed after a couple of hours and now the computer runs better than ever (well at least for a long time).
I must say that Microsoft and their tech guy were superb and I would not be frightened to contact them again. Thank you Microsoft for a very good free service. :ithank: Microsoft
Microsoft, free service?
Windows 10 was free, the service I received to sort out my problem was free. How else can I describe it?

You mean "free" as in "hidden in the cost of the machine you're running it on"? ;) :P

What free customer service does MS offer on the phone? I've not heard of it. :)
Was an honest question. :)
I came close to phoning their support line myself after the last major Windows update was applied. Years (literally) of fixes I'd applied to keep things working were undone and I felt a powerful need to let someone know about it :rant2:
0344 800 2400 is the number to ring for support.
When I contacted Microsoft over my problem and it was becoming obvious that the situation was worse than I thought, they informed that the service was completely free.
My computer was a high spec windows 8 computer that I upgraded to Windows 10 free of charge. I bought it on eBay as a ex demo model (HP Pavilion) and it cost me about £400. I then added extra memory at a very reasonable cost.
After my experience trying to deal with Apple (Do you want to book a visit to see a Genius to change you iPod battery, then come back next Thursday) I think the Microsoft FREE service is superb and nothing was to much trouble for them. ;D

Any of their websites/documents list this number?

Thank you! Having this handy for when people pluck numbers from phone books etc helps, as you never know if they got it from a scammer or direct from MS etc. So keeping that link to hand! (I could only find their online forms :/ such is customer service websites these days)
Hi everyone again, Today I'm having major problem with IE and Edge. I failed to be able to open sites in Edge most of the time but sometimes the would open. Then I found I was having a similar problem with IE. The strange thing was that I could access the sites (BBC.co.uk) with Chrome. I have tried most things including reinstalling Creaters Update.
I now find that I can open sites (Edge) by accessing via New Private Window.
Any help would be nice as I have been at this for a few hours now. By the way I am typing his using Edge with New Private Window active
Run CCleaner to clear out the cookies etc?
FlushDNS?
Disable your antivirus/firewall and try using Google DNS settings.
Is it not a longstanding MS bug- use another browser until they solve it. Edge as far as I can see has absolutely no advantages over Chrome except on a Laptop where it might give better battery life.
It's probably all the spyware Microsoft installed, when you had them poking around in your machine, Den. ;)

It is but it seems to have multiple causes. I've had it myself and fixed it twice using two different methods. The problem is my fixes get removed by the next patch ::)
I have fitted a new SSD Drive and reinstalled Windows 10 I now have a very fast PC and having fun reinstalling programs. The only problem I seem to be having is with my music library (my old HD is now running as a backup drive with my settings still on there) iTunes and Musicbee have picked up my list of songs but can't find the songs themselves.
Any thoughts would be good.
