I have an Acer e-Machine netbook which our old friend Rik suggested I should buy back in 2010. It originally run on Windows 7 Starter and was upgraded to 2Gb RAM. Last year I downloaded Win 10 which worked for a few months until a major Win 10 update hung and the machine would no longer connect to the Internet. The OS is partitioned and I believe I can return it to factory settings by pressing Alt and F10 during boot. I'd be quite happy to stay with Win 7 but would it download all the Win 7 updates if the original OS didn't come with Service Pack 2?
I've managed to get the machine back on the Internet but gosh it's painfully slow! A cumulative update for Windows 10 is available so I'm trying to download it.
I would guess that after a factory reset, it would download all of it's previous updates via Windows Updates, to bring Windows 7 up to date. But that is just a guess. :-\
Sometimes (I think every time), Win 10 deletes the "recovery" partition and replaces it with their own one... with a Window 10 install. So results may vary on success on reverting to Windows 7.
The update could take a few hours so I'll have to leave it overnight and see what happens.

Oh brilliant! Not! Thanks for that pro tip Ben.
Well, I've managed to get this little machine working again. Back on the internet and all Windows Updates downloaded. Now Glenn tells me another massive update is on the way - what could possibly go wrong? ::)
Go for it Clive. It is already available on you computer now. I know my desktop is quite fast but it is now even faster. It has also made a big difference to my laptop as well. ;D
