Which version? Some have been left on "wait and wait and wait" servers unless Windows 10.
Windows 10... will need troubleshooting if it's not downloading.

I have two laptops with the same problem.  One won't even connect to the Internet any more.  Both machines were upgraded from Windows 7.

I'm on Win 7, tried to update to 10 a few months ago it was a disaster, re loaded 7 and all was fine inc all the updates, but for the last few times update just searches but never finds, I have left it for hours with no joy. I noticed somebody on here had the same problem and was given a link to a cure, but I have searched the forum but cannot find it now.

I had horrendous problems last year with win 7 update constantly hanging. It was months before I found a solution. Ultimately what worked for me was downloading Microsoft's "Convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1" and running it 'manually' (ie not via win update).

I think I had to stop the win update service before running the installer iirc.

Once thats installed you should find win update works again and you have to go through several iterations of it to get your PC up to date.  Since doing this two months ago my updates have been back to normal  :)
