Title: Outage commencing 1605hrs 25 July 2016
Post by: rgthomas on Jul 25, 2016, 21:21:28
No service since 1605hrs on exchanges all over England and Wales - I see Cumbria, Llantwit Major, Reading, Southampton on status page...

http://www.idnet.net/support/networkstatus.php

Status page promises an update at 1930hrs. It is now 2120 hrs and no update.

Disappointing.

It does look like a major BT backbone failure and if that's the case it's going to take them a while to trace the faulty bit of kit.

Update from half an hour ago is that there is nothing further to update. Investigations continue.

I lost internet somewhere between about 15:30 to 15:45 yesterday, restored about 00:45 this morning.

Strange symptoms... the router insisted I had an internet connection but I couldn't reach anything. Trying a ping to bbc.co.uk resulted in Unable to resolve host but a ping to a BBC IP address I happened to have available worked fine. Obvious thought- DNS, so I rebooted the router... and then couldn't even log in!

The BQM supported the above- it wasn't until I rebooted the router that the trace went red, so it was right- I was still connected to the internet (insofar as I had a valid IP address), I just couldn't reach anything! Odd.
