Just had a letter through the post regarding hyperoptic 1gbps broadband service, which I have taken as basically ethernet grade broadband (FTTB). Does anyone have any experiances with them? I gather its a closed network service, and requires a new line installed directly into properties? Seemly super cheap prices on there website however!
I know 3 or 4 people who are with them and Marmite is what comes to mind. I would have a read through these reviews before making any decisions: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/hyperoptic.com?page=1 I would steer clear of them myself.
I thought it seems a bit to good to be true, and trapped into a closed network! I think I'll be leaving it well alone
Having read the reviews myself, the general consensus seems to be that the service is good, however customer service can sometimes let them down, coupled with poor wireless performance.
Bearing in mind that they install mostly in flats, which wireless will be congested to hell :evil:, that could explain the poor wireless performance?
If you do go with them, buy yourself a decent 5Ghz router, that should hopefully give you decent wireless speeds.
To conclude, if I had the chance of going with Hyperoptic I would.

The router they provide is not great by all accounts, and I believe its 2.4Ghz only. Considering we now have Mu-Mimo and 802.ac which is used in many new products and adaptive QoS like Qualcomm's Streamboost, having all that speed and a wi-fi bottle neck would be a pain. Yes you can wire your home, but thats not practicable for everyone and I get great speeds over 802.ac for streaming 4K HDR on Neflix. I would avoid them tbh. Most people simply don't need a 1Gbps service, unless you are downloading huge files every day or have a family of twenty under one roof all streaming at once ;) FTTC speeds over 40Mbps are good enough for most people if the latency is low along with low pings.
