Title: Best email program?
Post by: Den on Dec 30, 2015, 18:49:32
I have all ways used Outlook 2010 for my emails and my dairy but since I uninstalled Norton and replaced it with Kaspersky it stops responding unless I turn it off and back on again so I am considering an alternative email program. I have windows mail but it does not seem to update the received emails very quickly.  :dunno:

I just checked that it set up the way it recommends in the tutorial.

Sometimes when I turn on Outlook 2010 the send/receive bar stops before the end and sometimes not always another bar comes up for downloading folder order and takes ages to complete. If I try to click on anything it says Outlook is not responding and I have to log out.

My suggestion would be to ask on the Kaspersky forums, Den, as it seems to be an issue related to that product.  There may already be similar queries, so I'd advise to do a search first.  :)

Could always keep Outlook and dump Kaspersky.

I used to have to support it and it was second only to Norton in the bizarre way it could screw things up.

Usually use Avast myself but an update to Win 10 broke it (haven't tried since the new Win 10 build was released)

However, I have sometimes found that the mail scanning plugins of AV can sometimes cause issues following an Office patch, you could try temporarily disabling this in Kaspersky Internet Security and/or check for updates as they will probably patch it pretty quick.

FWIW Kaspersky and Thunderbird seem to get on fine.

The other thing I have noticed is sometimes Outlook 2010 will no longer display graphics in the email and I have to open in my browser instead, this has never happened before.

If the graphics issue happens irrespective of whether Kaspersky is active I'd reach for your Office DVD and let it run a repair first.

If that still doesn't correct it, uninstall and reinstall Office.

I've also heard of people having problems with Kaspersky. I've used ESET Smart Security for ages without any problems. You can get a free 30 day trial of the full program here.
Might be a good way of isolating the problem, but don't forget to uninstall Kaspersky first.

Strange, I've now noticed that the problem only happens if I receive on one of my idnet emails, but if only the bt emails are arriving no problem.  :slap:

I have uninstalled Kaspersky (they refunded my payment) and gone back to Norton and the problem has gone away.  :o

I installed Mailbird just in case and find it to be very good for emails so time will tell.  :D

I must be doing something wrong with Outlook.com as it will let me send emails but not receive them.  :dunno:

A surprising amount of open source software will have been used in non-critical parts of a car, eg. the infotainment system. If you drill down far enough, you may find the open source licences page.
