Evening Netters,
My landline is with IDNet as well as my broadband, and in recent months, I have been getting a few more nuisance telephone calls than I would like, to the point whereby now it's pretty much becoming a daily annoyance.
I would like to purchase one of these nuisance call blocking telephones, but have read that you have to have 'caller display' registered with your phone company for it to work. I don't really want to be paying any more per month than what I am - I think 'caller display' costs more, doesn't it?
I also need to confirm whether any of these call blocking phones are generic to any service provider, or whether they're specific to their own make (i.e BT phones only working if you're with BT for your landline). Does anyone have any preference whether cordless or corded work better?
I will ring IDNET in the morning to check whether any of these type of phones are compatible with an IDNET landline, but just wondered whether anyone else on here has experience with this type of thing.
Just a point to note - I've been registered with the TPS for years, and further, have re-registered with them in recent months just in case they've somehow wiped my details from existence (but frankly, it seems to make no difference whatsoever). I'm also ex directory, and NEVER give my landline out to anyone but family and close friends. For everyone else, I give my mobile number.

I believe Caller Display is included with IDNet's "Standard" phone line packages but you have to request it. If you only have the "Basic" phone line package, there is an additional charge for Caller Display:

We've had a TrueCall (http://www.truecall.co.uk/product-p/cb1.htm) for several years. It rocks, it really does. We particularly like the choice you have in how to deal with unfamiliar numbers. The only downside is that if, like us, you connect it to the master socket so that all the phones are protected, not all the phones will show the number calling at the time (althoigh it's there in the log). Recommended.
We have used a Truecall box for a few years now and it does a pretty good job. While you don't have to sign up for access to the web interface, £20/year, it is the easiest way of managing your whitelist and blacklist. The box makes one very short call a day to sync the web site with the data in the box.
Very, few unwanted calls get past the blocker and those that do you can blacklist them by hitting a single button on your phone.

I've recently changed my phone package to Idnet but they don't do answering machine. I miss not knowing if anybody has phoned when I'm out. Is there some equipment available to act as answering machine.?
1571 seems to be an optional extra, Lona, at £3 per month.

My home phone has a built in answering machine but it no longer works since I transferred my account to Idnet. I can dial 1471 and find out who the last caller was but I liked to come home to my messages :(
I can't quite see how a home answering machine could be affected by switching your phone to IDNet, as nothing 'physical' has been changed, only the billing. ???

Just a thought. I have an IDNet line and subscribe to their 1571 answer service. As far as I recall it takes a call after six rings. When I got our answering machine I'd to set it to answer after five rings and now all messages are safely received on the machine.

My answering machine was not affected when I switched :)
Mine neither. There is a programme on nuisance calls on Channel 4 tonight at 8 pm. (Despatches).
