I am having trouble accessing the configuration panel for My new Billion 8800NL router that has been supplied preconfigured by IDNet. It connects fine to the internet but won't let me access the configuration at 192.168.1.254 saying connection refused. I have tried a direct wired connection into the router. Any ideas?
:welc: :karma:
Sorry, I can't help, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with some advice. :)
Unless IDNet have changed the gateway address i.e. "ipconfig/all" it should be found at 192.168.1.254. I don't recall it requiring specific port either. Are you getting the request for user name and password?

Thanks for the reply. No username or password prompt, I am getting Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
Any help, my guess is it's not a router issue, however I'm not sure what your user name and password will be to access the router , IDNet used to in the past change them from the default, however you should at least be able to get to the input page.

Sounds like the web interface isn't running.
I'd suggest rebooting the router. I have this exact same problem with a NetGear which appears to be based on the same or similar underlying firmware.

Thank you. I will try the rebooting tomorrow when I can make a direct wired connection again in to the router
Tried rebooting and still can't connect to the admin panel.
I've had an email from IDnet support recommending I try: http://192.168.1.254:8888/ This has worked! Brilliant!
That's worth knowing. Thanks! :thumb:
That's strange I've just bought a Billion 8800AXL and that address doesn't work on mine with the:8888 added to it, it comes up 'Web Page not available' :dunno:
It's possible that they've changed the default port configuration as part of their pre-configuration of the modem.

Very likely, that's why I always prefer to configure my own router/modems. :)
Ray, I think you will find that the ".8888" suffix is an IDNet thing. Billion routers bought from normal retail outlets are usually accessed by http://192.168.1.254 with username and password both "admin" (without quotes), but don't forget that the first time you access it via a web browser you'll need to connect via a wire, as you'll not yet have set up your wireless.
Once that's done, you are good to go.
It's a colon, ":8888", not a full stop. The latter would be an impossible part of an IP address whereas the former specifies a 16 bit port number.
The absolutely full syntax is http://userid:password@address:port/
sorry for my typo, but the principle stands. Leave off the :8888 for a shop purchased Billion router.
But out of interest where/how would you use that full syntax nowster? for access to a Billion router would you put "http://admin:admin@192.168.1.254:16" (without quotes) 'cos that doesn't work on mine. You've confused me.
If I recall correctly specifying another TCP port apart from the default 80 is part of the Billion setup options.
Ah they've changed the access port number, normal factory config is the normal HTTP port number for browsers.
Hi to all,
I have just migrated to FTTP and have the above router, I also needed the 8888 port btw.
My question revolves around not displaying any line stats at all. Line rate upstream and downstream are both showing zero
Does anyone know why this is and is there a way of displaying any of these?
Regards
ReD
I'm currently using the same router and my stats show zero as well. I've Googled in the past but I've yet to find a solution I'm afraid.
How odd I've seen people quoting stats from that router/modem, afaik you should be able to telnet into that router and issue the various commands to get the stats . i.e adsl info--show I think this maybe correct rather than xdsl.
QuoteMy question revolves around not displaying any line stats at all. Line rate upstream and downstream are both showing zero
You won't see any line stats at all on FTTP, it's Ethernet from the ONT, the router only makes a PPPoE connection.
Thanks all for the replies
So could I still telnet for the stats or as it is not adsl have I no way of finding my actual speeds?

That was my initial response which I then deleted having read this and got confused.

I was going by this
QuoteGEA-FTTP will provide an 'always on' Virtual LAN (VLAN) between the Optical
Line Termination (OLT) equipment in a BT exchange and each Optical Network Termination (ONT) device in the End User premises.

Unless there's a means of telnet access to the BT ONT then the only speed information you will be able to get is from the IP Profile using the BT Speedtester
