Title: Adobe Creative Cloud Invoice
Post by: zappaDPJ on Oct 20, 2014, 15:39:04
Today I received an email from billing@adobe.com containing the following text and a zipped document entitled 'Adobe Invoice.doc'

QuoteDear Customer,

Thank you for signing up for Adobe Creative Cloud Service.

Attached is your copy of the invoice.
Thank you for your purchase.

Thank you,
The Adobe Team
Adobe Creative Cloud Service

As a subscriber this might have caught me out but for the fact that Adobe are not likely to send out a word document as an enclosure. Anyway, I copied the document onto another PC, opened it up and let it do its thing. If this has happened to you and you've opened the same mail, your PC is now riddled with malware.

I've got the same email in my junk folder.

I've had loads of those recently (not only Adobe), with supposed invoices attached, but luckily, I've not been caught out yet, and I just delete them.

Have you received one today Simon, exactly as posted above?

No, I've had Walk-In Baths, Burial Insurance, Alzheimer's Update, and Diabetes Help (funny how all these started arriving after I turned 50!), but no dodgy invoices today.

I had the exact same, correctly filtered into my junk folder with the attachment removed.

It's a bit of puzzle. I'm not unduly worried, but there's an obvious link here.

The email address I received them on is not one which has ever been used for any forums etc, but neither is it the one I used for Adobe prior to their security breach.

Have to admit, I didn't check which address my last ones came to, but most of the spam I receive to my main IDNet account is forwarded from the forum emails.

But it is an IDNet address?

Nope, it's my own domain hosted elsewhere.

I've just had two from Humber Merchants Group to my IDNet account, both with 'documents' attached.  I can't see from my phone whether they were forwarded, but will check later.

I had one of those yesterday, Simon, sent to one of own domain email addresses, seems to be a spam blitz going on at the moment I've had 8 different ones this morning.  >:(

It sounds like it's just a coincidence, everyone being hit by the same spam campaign.
