It's the lack of third party apps that would worry me, not sure how effective the Android player is though.

TBH, apps haven't worried me too much on the iPhone, mainly because I've not had room to download all that many.  I would guess that most of the 'everyday essentials', or equivalents of, would be available from the BlackBerry store.  When I had one some years ago (before the iPhone 3GS), the BB App Store was quite good, but I expect a lot of the developers have slipped away, given the decline in popularity of the platform.
