So, got given a tablet off the family to look at fixing. Fixing is not likely as they plugged in the wrong PSU, it's not going to have endured well to that. However, the funny thing... on opening it turns out... it's a "built your own tablet".
Otherwise known as the "Gooseberry" (possibly a nod at the Raspberry pi), the circuit board can be purchased to easily connect up your own tablet or make a simple android PC.
Worse thing is, it was Ideal world selling these... that or that the family purchased one. Thankfully though, I now have an interesting project should I choose to accept it (and the repair is as easy as buying a replacement board :P ).
