Looks like Google want to exert same control over the user experience that MS did with Windows

A simple solution is competition. Hopefully someone will spring up and port/branch/fork off the Android stuff enough. That or some nice web apps that are platform agnostic. OR consumers not being too scared to loose apps/settings n a switch to a new startup. Hey, if Windows mobile 8 can do it... well, anyone with a few hundred billion in the bank can compete...  ;)

Someone has, Amazon, as the Kindle runs a forked version of Android.
