Title: Why I loved Android before and after getting it...
Post by: Technical Ben on Apr 12, 2014, 19:15:16
I've no idea if others would agree, but sometimes I like to be able to get things working in particular ways. Someone needs to get that picture off a usb stick, someone needs to open that MS document etc.

I tend to avoid any product "closed down". I actually like secure systems, it's just Fort Knocks does not make a nice weekend getaway. So I'd put convenience over security at times. So Android was nearly always going to be my choice on a mobile tab/phone. :)

So I just got a USB cable with the correct connectors, so I can plug USB sticks in to load up peoples docs/pics/vids when needed and play them through hdmi (mini adapter). The only other device I know that could do this without much hassle is possible a MS Slate.

While I've had to install a few apps on the tablet, it should now work whenever a laptop, or smart TV fails to play the content (always forgetting the laptop charger ;) ), I can just plug the tablet in and away we go. :D

Watch out if its version 4.1.1 as that is vulnerable to Heartbleed, and as always with android use a malware scanner, as there are as many Virus and Trojans for Android as Windows almost these days. But it is very flexible. Personally I think iOS gives better longevity as far as updates and security, and apps seem kmore polished on iOS but Android offers more flexibility, but I'm past needing that for the time being, although one day a proper file system would be nice. I do miss that in tablets and phones. Once I can download and store updates for other things like firmware for my camera on a tablet and then update it from said device I'll be happy. ;)

I can get pictures from USB or SD card onto my iDevices and then output via hdmi too. Not sure what is making an Andriod so special in that respect? Yes I had to buy the appropriate adapters but you had to buy cables so not much difference. If my devices and TV were newer I would be able to output to the TV wirelessly too.

I have always liked Android since having it on a phone, I sometimes prefer it any Microsoft offering in fact I wish I could get it for my laptop.

Heartbleed mainly affects servers, and because of process memory isolation, it's unlikely you'll get anything "interesting" out of a client, such as an Android phone/tablet.

True. But I've seen my friends with Apple stuff. I can't do with Apple what I do with PC/Android (note I have root access without jailbreaking, not sure I could do that on iOS). It's just easier if I can do what I need when I need without worrying "does the vendor allow me to".

Photoshop, I'm afraid. So it's MiniTrue rather than MiniLuv.
