Title: BT Service information page when browsing the internet...
Post by: gyruss on Mar 30, 2014, 11:14:37
Since thursday night, i have noticed an issue where pages have not been loading and getting a BT Service information page appear instead.  This happens with all pc's on the home LAN here, and seems to happen later in the evening after 10pm.   I'm in the 01244 area and can't see any BT faults listed for this area, so wondered if anyone else was getting these outages at all?   I've reported the issue to support @ idnet anyway, but wanted to capture the problem with other idnetters to see if they were getting the same?

Sounds like a DNS error, what DNS servers are you using?

I've tried the ones automatically assigned by the router and also opendns as a secondary test.

i'm currently also having problems getting to some websites like the one below which is giving a bad ping.   I've asked other folk i know to test the same site and they can get on it with no issues.

Pinging www.liverpooltaichi.com [98.129.229.74] with 32 bytes of data:
General failure.

My connection seems fine today except for getting at that website shown above in my last post.

the bt error i've experienced late in the evening for the last 2 - 3 nights.

I've done a flushdns/registerdns today and my firewall is not blocking icmp's in a way i would not want it to.

strange.

I've had the same problem intermittently for quite some time. All my devices including my iPhone have manually configured IDNet DNS settings but I've also tried using Google's servers. Despite this, yesterday one of my PCs refused to connect to the Internet. Every page redirected to the BT Wholesale page. Trouble shooting suggested an authentication problem but IDNet support was able to get that device up and running again with the suggestion that I manual enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 into my Local Area Connection DSN settings.

Router reboot as might be an issue with the PPP session?

That never helps and can make the problem worse as it did yesterday. Clearing the DNS cache doesn't help either. It's a pain :dunno:

Ok Zap, just a suggestion.

Sounds like a BT fault somewhere then perhaps affecting a group of exchanges connected to a certain BRAS?

All suggestions are most welcome :) Support suggested it could be an issue at their end.

I am able to access the ip address of the liverpooltaichi.com site now.  No idea what was wrong there, but it is definitely displaying a page now.  I'll know later tonight if the bt service page re-appears if the other issue is more ongoing.

AAISP reported attacks on customer routers again the other day, maybe it was a limited DDoS attack possibly which effected routing?

Could just be IDNet have had an influx of customers and one or more of their hostlinks is groaning under the strain.

I would have thought everyone would have had the issue then, from down here in West Sussex all has been fine.  :dunno:

Guess you'll just have to see what IDNet's diagnostics turn up

Sounds like a drop of PPP for some reason hence the reason support think it may be an issue their end.
