Title: Things I have found which helps keep my line steady
Post by: old Bill on Jul 19, 2007, 08:51:01
As some of you will know I had the line from hell. So much so that BT said at one point my line would not support ADSL Max.  Well I now have a nice steady connection (no loss of connection since the last reboot in over 10 days). I have tried these on my line as well as a friends who has a line just as bad as mine. I am not saying it will work for every one byt it might be worth a try. I has a ADSL Nation filltered face plate in the evening by n/m would drop from 9-7. I then changed it to a BT face plate and my noise margin drops to 8. Have tried this on my mates line as well the results were the same. So if you are on the edge of getting a resync changing to a BT filtter might help. As mentioned elseware now have a BT 2700 router it really is the best IMO if you have a long line. The amount of errors I now have on my line are less then a quater then I was having before.  Lastly this has been mentioned before but I find that a  decent RJ11 cable helps as well  ( i use a Belkin) I found that it added about 100kbps to my sync speed.
These have only been tried on  2 lines but we found that the reults we were getting were pretty much the same. So if you are having problems trying some of the above may help.

Must just say, I've had my ADSL Nations faceplate changed for a BT one (by the engineer) and it's fixed my problem (well, not totally) but I'm now testing just how stable the connection is.  So far however, it is much more stable.  Interesting reading about the decent ADSL (RJ11) cable.  I may also have to invest in this as at the moment I am just using the one which came with the router.

It didn't work when I first tried it, then started to work again. Anyway, it's the Belkin shielded cable...

My speed just keeps getting better without doing anything ( apart from changing to my Zyxel 660 Router )... so I will not bother getting any new cables. :)

It is now showing up as 6880 at DSL Zone.

Sorry Rik. ;)

 :P

I have noticed an improvement in speed over the past few days, nothing stunning - measures about 25k, but it's consistent. Curious...
