Title: Getting through to IDNet
Post by: Clive on Nov 26, 2013, 12:22:12
My telephone line seems to have developed a problem as the dial tone sounds strangulated and tinny and it's hard to hear the conversation.  I tried phoning the 01462480092 number but when I pressed the options it said "this call cannot be transferred - please try again later".   :dunno:

Is that not the old number?

Try either freephone 0800 331 7000 or 01462 659350.

Ah, it was the one given to me by Rik.   Thanks Lance.

I've tried both those numbers but it's exactly the same.   :(

I still can't get through to them and now I've lost caller display.  I've sent them an e-mail to see if they respond to that.

I've just got through on the 480092 number and Simon said they've had no problems with the phone lines.  I've told him you've emailed so hopefully he'll get onto it.

That's another reason for moving flats again. >:D

Yes that's obviously a dodgy flat.  Did you find out why the previous occupants moved?  ;D

No, this is my house phone.   ;D  Simon from IDNet e-mailed me very promptly and says "The line test is showing a loop fault. This usually means some wiring/equipment is causing an issue. Have you tested the phone at the master socket with all other equipment unplugged? "  I've responded to say that I've removed my callblocker but that hasn't made any difference.  I'll bring one of the phones from the flat tomorrow and try that in the master socket.  Thanks for all your help.   :thumb:

The problem was caused by a redundant 3 way phone splitter that was plugged into the master socket.  I can't even remember why I needed it now but it's many years since it served any purpose.  As soon as I removed it everything returned to normal including caller display.   8-)
