Title: Nexus 5 released
Post by: Glenn on Nov 01, 2013, 08:46:50
Google has officially unveiled the latest incarnation of its flagship Nexus smartphone.

Made by LG, the handset is smaller, slimmer and lighter than the Nexus 4 but its 4.96in (126mm) touchscreen is bigger.

Hmmm, where will they draw the line on screen sizes?

The Samsung I have now is about the most comfortable to hold touchscreen I've used and it has a 3.8 inch display.

Back on topic, hopefully this one is better made as my colleague who has a Nexus 4 was using a fair bit of Anglo Saxon the other week when the back panel completely cracked.

The only issue I have had with my Nexus 4 is a small problem with scrolling the display on the extreme right of the screen, called Google and I had a replacement on next day delivery with a pre-paid return for the faulty handset.

Screen sizes keep going up, Mitch. Its phablets now it seesm. I tried an Xperia Z1 out but it was to big and not practicle in a wheelchair one handed, a disaster waiting to happen. The Note 3 is huge but when  you see what it can do its great, but I still like phone sized smartphones, although the extra screen real estate is fun.

Oh yeah but as you say Gary they are becoming harder to hold.

I think Samsung have got the right idea with the Round.

I hold the Ace 2 in my left hand and operate the screen with the right, no way could I do it one handed.

I think many of us will find it harder with bigger screens, they my look nice but for me they are not practicable. As you say its nice being able to operate a phone one handed. Its funny how phone sgot smaller and smaller, and now are the size of tea trays. I wish they could do a bendy flexible screen so it can fold into a clamshell then be full sized capacitive when open.

I'm dreading when I have to upgrade my folks' phones again.

They hate touchscreens and have both said what you just have Gary about them being too big and my Mum even said 'why would I want to carry a television around with me'

Apart from a Blackberry (and who knows if they will see the next 12 months) I'm at a loss as they would be highly insulted if I presented them with a Doro!

Guess I'll just have to let them play with my Samsung for a while and hope it grows on them or get a mortgage in place and move out!
