Noticed this morning that my latency had gone up:

First thought was that the DLM had dumped me on interleave again, it usually does that around autumn/early winter time. But a speed test (tbb (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results.html?id=138086513305851552549)) was the same as usual, and a BTW test showed my profile unchanged at 69.58Mbps.
So, could interleave be applied without affecting speed/profile or is it more likely that either BT or IDNet have put me on the scenic route?
I have noticed the forum is running slow at the moment, Bill. You BBQ meter Image does not load straight away. :dunno: Posting seems slower to. Page created in 0.217 seconds with 26 queries. Where as coming back to the post from another is Page created in 0.143 seconds with 26 queries.
and its all ok again ::) (until I tried posting and its slow again) :slap:
I'm not seeing much slowdown on the tbb forum but some parts of the main site are slow, BQM images as you say, and speed test graphs are even slower.
But that shouldn't affect the data used to produce the BQM as far as I know.
I've noticed that this forum is usually very slow in the early morning, I've always assumed something like a server backup is running.
I just noticed that this morning I had no connection. Although my TBBQM shows no problem. Don't know what that's about but I thought it was just my router losing its LAN interface.
I can see a Fibre BQM from a different ISP showing a similar rise in latency at about 3:45am. That's slightly earlier but it's the first fluctuation I've notice on that line in months so it might be significant.

Probably the storms last night, mine lost its ip addresses to computers until a repair run.
Bill, do you know if your line connects through Reading, my line shows the same jump around 4-5am
@Zap- that's handy to know, thanks.
@Alf- I wondered that, but there wasn't even much rain around here, let alone storms!
@Glenn- I'm not sure, but I don't think so. The RSS showed some kerfuffle or other at Reading a week or so ago, but it didn't affect me. How would I find out?
Just do a trace route, it should show where it goes through.
I've tried a few of those... ignoring the fact they don't mean much to me, most of them are timing out:iMac-3:~ billford$ traceroute idnet.com

Mean anything to you, or any suggestions for a better url to try?
Mine latency went up last week at the '05:00 DLM I'll raise your Interleave again time' it usually takes 2-3 weeks to settle again, I've not noticed any reduction in throughput when this happens though.

Ah, right... in the past I've always lost a few Mbps when the "winter interleave" went on. Maybe this is just a gentle dose and will recover in a few week :fingers:
Having had time for a better look at my graph it looks decidedly odd:

The modem says the connection has been up for over three days. Not that I think that was a fault - I took it upon myself to rearrange the cables in that area of the study and did a bit of an whoopsie with the power cable :)x
Other monitors on the Craigswebsite list show the 4pm glitches but not the bigger outages. :dunno:

At first glance yeah but my big outage was 1am, yours was 3am. Still - a curious and comforting similarity. Network outages I can live with. It's when the copper starts pratting about that I worry :fingers:
Mind you speaking of curious at some point my media/mail server clock decided to jump back an hour. I've no idea why. Nothing in the time server event logs to explain it. I went to the Internet Time tab, clicked update and it just fixed itself without a complaint. :dunno:

Get the same daytime packet loss (up to 5%, not the bigger drops) which looks like a network issue, but nothing more. No connection drops here though. Up since 3rd Sept (a record for BT Wholesale).
I have the odd problem with phone apps which default to GMT on a random basis when they are set to allow for daylight saving. A time server reset issue perhaps?

Maybe. I don't think it's done it before. It mostly just sits in a corner of the study minding its own business.

Why not run ntpd and keep it sync'd to someone like NPL (http://www.npl.co.uk/science-technology/time-frequency/products-and-services/time/time-synchronisation-of-computers-to-utc(npl))?

It's been syncing with Microsoft's time server up 'till now.

Not sure if it might have been the problem, but in some years the US shift from Daylight Saving time to "normal" time doesn't happen on the same date as in the UK... it can cause confusion on occasion!
That's why I always make damn sure to use a UK time server, and nobody is going to argue with NPL :P

Ah well, it was a thought.
