Title: Slow speeds and poor performance
Post by: davecollins on Sep 19, 2013, 13:53:23
Hi all,

So this is frustrating. I usually get a steady 74-75 Mb/s, but this has been dropping to around 10 on and off all day. Lots of drapped packets, jitter etc:

I've spoken to three different people in IDNet support - all of whom have carried out the same inconclusive line test.

I've now been told to use the bt speedtest, but this isn't even working properly. Sigh.

So in 24 hours someone from IDNet will get back to me to let me know where things stand.

Is anyone else seeing poor performance today?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Certainly I've got some packet loss today but not as bad as last night which I could confidently put down to the iOS7 update, it may well be still the case today

Hopefully that will be the case for me too. Time will tell!

Thanks for letting me know.

Lonap stats for today are showing higher usage than yesterday, so it could well be the iOS update.

Amazing. Is the update automatic then?

Not automatic, just reflex :out:

Smug. At least those of us on Android can update continually (as we feel like it) rather than like sheep for the shearing.

So can iOS users we can update anytime we feel like it, sadly we choose to do it at the same time. Lemmings.

Looking at my packet loss and the LONAP traffic, seems like the evening brigade has come online!

Or maybe it's the "I'll leave it for 24 hours until it's less busy" lot ;D

And now it's not even connected. The DSL light is off on the openreach box.

That's a local (sync) problem between the DSLAM and the modem, something for BT (via IDNet) to sort out.

Have you tried powering the modem off for a few minutes?

Hi Bill,

Yes I did that. The light came on after about 5-10 minutes.

It's getting better but look at that latency. Never seen that before:

That looks worth keeping an eye on... it could be local interference but if it were my BQM then uncharitable thoughts about the modem wouldn't be far away either  :(

I was thinking the same thing, but look now:

Speeds are now back to normal. I had the excellent JackDinn's Auto speed tester running throughout the night, and I'm back up to a steady 74 down.

Very strange.

Sadly Android phones dont get as many major updates as iPhones, what can you say.  >:D  ;)

@kobe that to me looks like a busy connection, I had a small amount of packet loss around noon yesterday but none in the evening.
