Title: Email and Windows 8/8.1
Post by: camdave on Jul 17, 2013, 14:47:29
Me again - hopefully my last upgrade issue for a while (see my previous XP thread)

My wife is still using Outlook 2003 on her XP computer. I understand that it is possible to import emails etc. into Windows Live Mail by first exporting to Outlook Express. However, it appears that Microsoft is trying to phase out Live mail in favour of the Windows mail in W8  (and presumably 8.1) which does not accept POP3 accounts. Outlook costs around £100.00 which is ridiculous. I will be installing our existing copy of Office 2007 H & S edition, which of course does not include Outlook, on the new PC.

Is there any way to preserve her existing emails and contacts and upgrade to a more up to date program?

Would Thunderbird be an option, then import the pst files?

Simon, I think it's just the home and student version of Office 2007 which doesn't have Outlook. I'm not 100% sure though because I get office 2010 professional for less than a tenner through work!

You could always try http://www.emclient.com/ (http://www.emclient.com/)  It is free for two accounts and about £45.00 for unlimited accounts.  I have tried it and it imports Outlook mail and accounts quite easily. It comes wit a one year licence but you just renew it as necessary.

by the way I got Office 2010 pro for £57.00 from software4students a while ago. ;D
