Title: Connection Issue?

Anyone getting problems tonight? The DSL light on the modem keeps blinking...

Here's the log from the router...

My TBBQM looks a bit odd with some packet loss visible:

But otherwise it's performing well.

Mine is not looking great and has not for a month, last few days my ping has gone from 15ms to over 30ms.

BT so called fixed a line fault in May but still getting random connection issues :( think its time to get BTo out for them to say "no fault", line becomes normal and a £200+ bill to pay  :eyebrow:

Big red area was when I turned the modem off to try get the line speed back to normal.

If the modem light is blinking surely that means on FTTC a local issue between your modem and the cabinet.

I have no idea how BT class it.

I just know that plenty of times I see the DSL light on the modem go completely out, then start blinking for a while and go back solid green.. and then sometimes, a few secs or mins later, does it again... this can carry on for 5 - 10 mins sometimes.

But the weird thing is, my router (Billion 7800n) doesn't always show this via uptime counter or in the logs.

I personally think there is a fault somewhere, but BT came back to support the other day saying everything is fine  :eyebrow:

Is it worth collecting some modem data? The software is available - Bald_Eagle1 has done a lot of work automating the scripts.

This will void the modem then and if anything is wrong with the modem, they won't replace it.

They do come up on eBay if you don't want to risk the one you've got, I got one 18 months ago for about £15, although I rarely use it as fortunately my line is very stable. What you do with the results is another question.

Might keep my eye on ebay then.

My line has been stable up until a month ago when I reported issues and BT found a fault, now the line is just cr*p :(

Hi Paul,

We can arrange for BT to come out and swap the modem out if required? if you would like for me to arrange this for you, please drop an email into support and I'll get this done, at least this might then rule it out as a possible cause.

Well since BT came out on the 12th and replaced my modem, so far everything has been stable.

I requested a port reset to start my 10 days training again, but I don't think that has happened.

As you can see, a lot more stable.

Ignore the red area, that was me. I had to turn the modem of to sort cables out and put in a new (shorter + higher quality) DSL cable from modem to socket.

I just have to wait for the DSLAM to sort out the profile/interleaving on my line now as pings are still > 30 ms :-\

It's sometimes a long wait as well but in my experience it will happen early one morning.

I just gave support a call and the port reset was done, so I just have wait for the DSLAM to be nice and drop the interleaving.
