Title: Major update
Post by: Den on May 21, 2013, 20:03:25
next month for Windows 8

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22446754

Will it be a free upgrade or a paid for new system?   Who said that Microsoft don't listen?   ::)

It's not free Den as they consider it to be a brand new OS.   :o  A better upgrade would be to install windows 7.   ;D

Wrong. http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_blog/archive/2013/05/14/free-windows-8-1-update-will-be-unveiled-june-26.aspx (http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft_blog/archive/2013/05/14/free-windows-8-1-update-will-be-unveiled-june-26.aspx)

I hope you are right Gizmo because if the rumours that M$ were charging are true it will be bad news for all of us.

I read it was free too. Since Windows 8 was such a mess I cant see MS asking for a payment when the PC market is doing so badly, odd how they made windows 8 into such a disaster, but the Xbox One looks fabulous.  ::)

8.1 or Blue will be a free upgrade, Microsoft is trying to go away from "service packs".. they've also said that there's no plans for a 8.2.

Also, I don't get it when people say Windows 7 is an upgrade to 8.. When 8 is basically a better version of 7 (if you don't use the touch stuff).

I only use the touch stuff if I want to play angry birds etc  ;D

I get so fed up of people running Windows 8 down. It's by far the best operating system that Microsoft have brought out so far and if they can improve even further it will be untouchable. I have ran it on all my machines from the week it came out and have not found anything I dislike and it's by far the fastest system I have used. I have never missed the start button although I did install one on my spare desktop but did not bother on my main machine that I use everyday. RANT OVER   ;D

The start button is making a come back in 8.1 I've heard, but I don't think that means the start menu is coming back, they will be replacing the hot corner bottom left with the start button.

The only issue I have with windows 8, is them hiding the shutdown and restart options. They could just add these options on the start screen under your name (when clicked, just like the sign out option)
