Title: Video Capture
Post by: psp83 on Jul 05, 2007, 09:39:37
Hi,

I'm looking at buying a video capture device sometime soon as i wanted to get some video from old vhs tapes.

Just wondering if anyone got some tips about what one to get etc.

Regards,
Paul

Hauppage kit usually gets rave reviews and, having seen a VHS-DVD conversion, it is pretty impressive.

PS - Are you the psp83 that partook in the MaxDSL trials with Tisc***?

I've been using a Hauppauge PVR250 PCI card for years, it's still going strong. Like all vid capture hardware I've looked at, it can be a little quirky to use, but once set up it's just a case of put the vhs tape in your player and hit play then hit record on your desktop.

One thing I will say, is that I believe it's best to capture ( in mpeg2 format ) your video first and then author your actual DVD afterwards. I've tried some all-in-one-go solutions and found they didn't give the same quality. Though of course your never going to get dvd quality from vhs anyway  :)

Cheers

Not really worried about the quality, Its only for a website we're building.
