Title: Windows 8 Phones have reboot glitch
Post by: Gary on Nov 19, 2012, 12:16:28
'Early adopters of Windows Phone 8 hardware are complaining that it reboots at random, up to several times a day, and that they're not being offered any prospect of a quick fix.

The complaints relate specifically to the HTC 8X and, to a lesser extent, Nokia's Lumia 920, with Windows Phone 8 locking up or randomly rebooting on both devices for no discernible reason. Forum users on Microsoft.com and WPCentral have been gathering examples in an attempt to narrow down the problem, but with limited success'

So how did no one notice this glitch before general release  :slap:

The problems of early adopters, I think we've been there ourselves.  ;)

So just like every other version of Windows then?

The early iOS versions weren't that spectacular at times either.

Neither are the later ones, especially with the awful maps app now.

You could argue that the Windows phone is therefore safer than the iPhone. It's the phone that crashes and not the car  ;)

Re Google maps app - apparently is not far off from submission to the App Store but will Apple approve it? But that's a question for another thread.

Google are submitting an iOS mapping app for approval.  ;)

Apple are fixing their app too as it was rushed and the info is being updated all the time, people seem to forget that Google maps was pretty sparse in the beginning and creating a whole new map application takes time, and Apple should have held back but they didn't and with Forstall gone things may improve. We have satnav anyway in the car so I'm not that fussed. As to early adopters, tbh the whole life cycle of most gadget/phones/etc seem pretty naff these days.

True, but even newcomers to the car market cannot get away with forgetting to add wheels. Newcomers to the software market should start simple, rather than overstretching and making a mess.

Sounds like a BSOD to me so its either an invalid page fault or a dodgy driver.

I doubt very much there's a possibility of a DLL being patched.
