I dont know which board to ask this on so here goes,
I have a problem with a Cannon camera and have had a reply to an Email sent to them, now here is the question, they have asked me to call their sales team on an 800 number they say is toll free, but the sales dept is in the USA is it likely to be toll free from the UK to USA if I call them ? :dunno:
No, it will cost you to call US toll free call if it actually works, it's only free in the USA.
Cheapest way is to find their standard non-free number and call it from a landline with a good call package. Mine gives me calls to the USA at 1p per minute.
Do they not have a UK sales / support team you could contact?
They do, I'm guessing that it may be dependent on the country of origin/purchase of the Camera.
It will work, but you may get an announcement saying "the call is not free, please hang up if you do not wish to be charged".
Use a decent VOIP service such as BT and it is 10p per hour!
Unless they have an International Freefone number which would be 00 800
Thanks guys, they have been back in touch and confirmed they cannot deal with my problem it must be handled by a UK dealership, so thats that then, I dont expect the same level of service from the UK centre but I have contacted them and await an answer.
If you bought it in the UK why did you even try to contact them? Unless its an item with an international warranty like a lens, you'll never get them to help.

Bought in UK but it has developed a known CCD issue, apparently the entire batch was produced with that error. I only know this because of an internet search done when mine packed up, I hadn't used the camera for some time and was unaware of the product recall which ended in 2011. Cannon where offering me a discount on a new camera in exchange for the old and negotiations were taking place on the Cannon website which unknown to me was in the USA, they in turn did not realise I was in the UK, and so confusion reigned supreme. :slap: I have now made contact with the UK based team and related my sad story, unlike the US site which answered my Emails within hours, the UK needs 4-5 days to make a reply, so now I just wait :eyebrow:

I had a Canon compact camera which developed a known CCD issue after 4 years and it was 3 yrs past expiry of guarantee. Canon UK repaired it free. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, Canon are actually quite good when it comes to customer service from everything I've read on photography forums.

I do hope so, but the problem is it's not just out of guarantee but well out, and Cannon US said the parts were no longer available for the free repair to be carried out, but they do offer a loyalty program, hopefully in the UK :fingers:
