Is it possible to schedule a windows PC to ping a linux box to wake up ? (WOL)

Stupidly, I'm wondering why you don't just schedule the Linux box to start up at the time you would schedule the WOL packet to be sent?

Otherwise, could you not have a batch file (pinging the machine or something) scheduled in Windows Task Scheduler.

Isn't WOL bios based not os based? The wakeup bit anyhow. But a batch file or schedule might do the pinging bit in windows. Ignore most of this post, I know nothing of automating things in windows, else I'd get it to post some forum posts for me.  ;D

Bios and your NIC card has to support it and be enabled.

The PC will keep the NIC powered when enabled.
