Is there any way I can alter the auto display option, On leaving the forum it seems the all posts read is triggered so when I come back in there is noting to read, can this be set to manual so I have to actually select it before leaving ? My reason--- I sometimes am reading the forum and may get called away, somebody else gets on the keyboard, clicks the page off, when I regain control I've lost what I was reading :mad:
There is no manual setting, Bob, it all works on the cookie. If this is allowed to be stored in your browser, it should remember which posts remain unread, no matter how many times you enter and exit the forum. Have you also ticked the box to stay logged in?

Yes Simon, I could understand if it not listed a post after I have read it, that would make sense, but when I enter the forum I click on "show unread posts" and select ones to read, but when I leave it seems to consider all are read and next time shows only those newly entered.
It shows posts since last visit, Bob.
Which link are you using, Bob? This one should show all Unread Posts, regardless of when you last entered the forum:
http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=unread;
I disagree, Simon. I think that only shows recent unread posts (not sure of the definition of recent). I've tested it and it doesn't show some older unread posts for me.
Anyway, the only reason everything shows as read that I can think of is a cookie problem. I would double check the cookie is not being deleted by the browser on exit.
The 'Show unread posts since last visit' function will do exactly what it says on the tin. However if you leave the forum your unread posts are still marked as unread and should be retrievable. To do this you need to use the same function and then click the 'ALL UNREAD TOPICS' button which appears at the bottom right of that page :)
[EDIT] If that's not working for you then as Lance has already said, you need to check that cookies are being saved for these forums.
Ah... You're quite correct, Zap. Having just checked, that's my bookmark link.
:)
I should also add that the 'ALL UNREAD TOPICS' button will not appear if there has been no new unread posts since your last visit. In that case there is still a link contained within the 'No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics.' Banner.
The simplest solution is to bookmark the ALL UNREAD POSTS link, then you can't really go wrong, as long as the cookie is working.
Thanks guys for the suggestions, I'll give them a try :)
