I just has someone on the phone from BT trying to sell me their fibre broadband package and I checked my exchange status and it does appear to have been upgraded in July. (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LVPRE)
Is it worth it? I only ask because I'm really far from the exchange and only get 4mb down/1mb up and will it require a new type of router?
I checked the IDNET website and the upgrade section showed no way to switch to fibre bb even though the exchange is supposed to be upgraded.
Your speed will depend on how far you are from your cabinet - if your cabinet has been converted
As to whether it is worth it... depends on your usage
I'm on the home superpro package, multiple heavy users as to the cabinet it's about 100 feet from the house at the end of our row but I have no idea if it's been upgraded.
I used http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/ to check cabinets and all it it says about mine is:
This marker shows cabinet: P33
Which is linked to exchange: PRESCOT
Please note: There are multiple cabinets providing fibre broadband services to your postcode. There may be an issue with the deployment of these cabinets so please contact us at nga.enquiries@openreach.co.uk to check the situation for your specific address.
So I'm no more in the know than before.
Put your phone number in here, it should give you an estimate, or give support a call and ask them for an estimate.http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25795
Thanks Glenn, this is what it shows as:
BT Infinity 31.1Mb download 5.8Mb upload 31-December-2012
So I guess the cabinet isn't ready even though the exchange was upgraded months ago ::)
It can take months or even years for cab's to be upgraded, my cab was ready 9 months after the exchange was upgraded.
