Title: Backup software to NAS
Post by: mrapoc on Sep 11, 2012, 01:17:10
Greetings all. Long time no see  ;)

Was wondering the internet for backup solutions when I remembered how experienced the idnetters were!

My query is:

I'm after a backup program, preferably free which can:

Run on windows
Backup Folders - incremently
But keep a certain amount of "snapshots" of the backup in case of deletion
Maybe compressed too?

Not quite sure atm of what I want but I was thinking a User folder for each user with subfolders for music, pics, docs and videos.

Then the backups stored in backups > pcname > username > pics/music/docs as an archive

What do you think? The data replicator which came with the NAS confuses me a bit and seems a bit too simple

I'm great thanks  :)

Got my degree sorted (computing science bsc) and have been out working. Came back home as I lost the job in telford doing business to business support but now working in a local pc shop as a stopgap.

How's the idnet world? Moved home over to talktalk whilst I was away at uni to save some money. All in all not bad for the money - no issues yet.

Installed a trial of acronis true image last night. It does exactly what I want but seems a bit pricey considering I want to protect 3 or so pcs  :-\

Also how rude of me - turning up out of the blue and asking questions! Was a late night and wasn't in the best social mindset  :red:

When do you start the course, or do you have the degree?

Passed my degree :) in computing science - just got the letter last week  ;D

Now computers are more of a work tool than anything so don't really spend much time at home anywhere near the damn things
