Today I received two emails from two different sources both containing attachments in word. On both when I try to open them it tells me I have not got word installed. If I save them as a document and then try to open them it works OK but not directly from Outlook. Any thoughts as I'm stumped?

If it's an issue with document versions that download caters for most permutations I think.
I take it you mean open them through Word Den?
If so then its a file association issue, the quickest way to fix it is this (Note this may reset a few things in Word):
Press the Windows key and R
Type winword /register and click OK
Word will start briefly and then close but it will have reregistered itself with the system including file associations.
