Title: Sky and TV card for PC
Post by: psp83 on Jun 24, 2007, 16:24:40
Well i have recently got sky put into the office and this pc has a FlyDVB-T Hybrid analog/digital card. I have connected an aerial from the RF Out 1 on the sky box and plugged it into the card on my PC..

The question is, how on earth do i get media center to pick up sky so i can do some recording.

Thanks,
Paul

I'd assume you have to tune the card to the RF output of the Sky box, then go from there? If you have the ability to avoid RF and use a composite video input, the quality should be better.

Nah my card only supports coeaxe.. I've tuned my card to use analog and added a channel to use RF channel 68 (checked sky services for this number) still dont get a picture :(

Is the Sky box using channel 68? Are you connected to the correct RF output? Do you have access to a TV that would enable you to check the co-ax lead is OK?

Yeh i've checked the sky box is using c68. I've tried both RF out's on the back, dont get any picture with both. I've connected the cable to a spare TV and tuned that in and got a picture.

The card in the pc is fine, As if i plug the aerial straight into it i get the basic 5 channels and if i set the card up to use digital then freeview works.

I just cant get sky to work :(

So, if the TV can 'see' the Sky signal, and the PC can see the terrestrial channels, could it be that the card can't tune to ch68. Try resetting the Sky box to something in the 40s, see if that helps.

So will that mean they wont charge extra for Sky+ now? or have they put the extra costs into the packages?

No charge if you subscribe to any Sky package, no increase in subscription charges. It still costs if you have a Freesat card. I'm not surprised, tbh, I've had a feeling for a while that Sky would be moving towards the Sky+ box becoming the standard 'entry level' unit, with HD replacing Sky+ as the premium product.

I have the very top package £43.50 with multiroom. So will probly give them a call tomorrow to get sky+ added..

Do you know if you "upgrade" now it will be free or do you have to wait till july?

Knowing Sky, I'd wait a week. :(

Edit: Come to think of it, you'll not pay anyway, so go right ahead.
